LG GT Lollipop Update hosed my phone

OK - so my phone automatically updated on the 17th (maybe 18th).  Since then:

1. I kept getting a message that Google Play Services needed to update, but then nothing would.

Everytime I hit anything that used google this would happen.  I have worked around that by downloading the Google Play Services APK and installign it manually.  So now i don't get the error.  However,

2. I am unable to download anything.

3. My weather widget is requiring a download, but see #2.

4. I am missing apps - I have no idea what apps, though, because there are jsut empty spaces where apps used to be.  Also see #2 - no way to fix that problem.

Is the issue with the ATT Push upgrade to lollipop?  or is it Google Play Services (they also pushed some crap on 4/17and people are complaining about that too) ?   Do i need to do a factory reset?  Or should I just sit tight and hope a fix gets pushed?

You need to do a factory reset.  something is corrupted from when the os was upgraded.  I personally think they should let the user back up there phone then wipe it.  It would keep what you have going on from happening.

You should also wipe your phone's cache partition.after an update. Doing a factory reset and wiping the cache partition will clear two different parts of the phone's storage.  Unlike the factory reset, wiping the cache partition does not delete your data.

To wipe the cache partition, follow these steps:

  1. From the home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap General tab.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  6. Tap Cached data, then OK.
  7. Wait for the Cached data to clear; depending on size it will take several seconds to complete. When complete the storage screen will refresh and cached data will not be listed.

Note: When you enter Storage again Cached data will appear. Your Cached data has been successfully cleared.

Around April 17, my phone indicated an update was required, both my wife and I updated like good little puppies. We now get no cell service at home, reception and transmitting gets about every third word with at times no bars when before the update I could sit in my home office and receive 3-4 bars, our apps are messed up, the phones home screen has moved items to never never land. I would do a re-set but as instructed by AT&T I need to save all my information and stand a good chance to lose most if not all if I don't back up. I called today (support) and was asked if my wife called earlier, she had not but other people from my community have been calling support. I was told AT&T lost their lease to some 1500 towers as Verizon is buying them up. So, anyone else in a low populated area having service problems and can anyone describe how to back-up all my data on the phone. I'm computer illiterate. OR... better yet, give me some advice on how to fix the problem.

Thanks:
