LG G5 - random freezing, lagging

I just switched from Sprint to AT&T, coming from an LG G5 on Sprint to the same phone on AT&T. However, my AT&T G5 has been slow and I've had quite a few issues with it. It regularly freezes for a few seconds from time to time, some widgets don't always work (for instance, I try to add a Weather Underground widget and it just displays "--" for all the temperatures and says "Widget location has been removed" even though I've told it to use GPS), Facebook will randomly freeze and crash, etc.

I did not have any of these issues with the G5 I had on Sprint. The only difference in installed apps is the default AT&T apps vs most of the default Sprint apps - and I don't use most of the built-in apps anyway (the only one I really use is the My AT&T app, which shouldn't cause any problems).

Has anyone else had these problems with the G5 or is this just a random fluke with the particular device I got? I don't want to have to send it in for replacement already since I just got it yesterday, but this is really annoying.

Hello there @Oldiesmann!

Thanks for making the switch! Having a slow phone experience is definitely a bad first impression, and we want to help!

Have you tried clearing the cache on the phone? This is a great first step with any performance issue:

  1. Drag down the notification bar and tap the Settings icon at the top-right.
  2. Tap General >Storage. (If using List view, scroll down to 'DEVICE' and tap Storage).
  3. Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  4. Tap Cached data, then tap YES.
  5. Wait for the cached data to clear; depending on size it will take several seconds to complete.
  6. When the wipe is complete, the storage screen refreshes and cached data will not be listed. This means your cached data has been successfully cleared.

You might also try clearing the cache for any particular program application (You can usually do this in Settings > Applications > Application Manager > App Name).

I hope this helps! Have a great day, and thanks for being a part of the AT&T Community!

Thanks for the advice. Things had gotten better over the past couple of days but clearing the cache like that seems to have resolved the remaining issues I was having.

Hello there @StephanieD2468!

I’m sorry to hear that!

What seems to be happening with you S7 Edge? Is it experiencing buggy performance as well?

You can clear the cache as we demonstrated above, but there’s also a partition cache you can purge to help out!

Here are some steps to complete that:

  1. Hold down Home + Power + Volume Up until Fastboot menu appears.
  2. Use Volume to highlight Recovery and press Power to select it (if you see the robot on its back, hold Power and press Volume Up once to access the Recovery menu).
  3. Use Volume to select Wipe Cache Partition and press Power to confirm.
  4. Once the system cache is wiped reboot the device.

Feel free to keep us updated on this issue, we’re happy to help!

The problem with my s7 edge. Is when I text fast the keyboard freezes. For ex. If I text "hey how are you." Really fast the letter H in hey will be stuck and you don't see the rest of the sentence that I'm trying to type. Then when it finish being stuck a lot of the words or letter would be missing. So I have to retype the missing word or letters. Once I have that all set I then hit the send button. If I want to text again to the same person right after I sent them a first text, it freezes on me until the first text has successfully sent. Idk why, but this even happen to my s4 before I upgraded to my s7 edge.

Hello again @StephanieD2468!

Thanks for following up with us, that would certainly get frustrating.

My first instinct would be to clear the cache and data for the keyboard you are using. This may wipe customized settings, if you have any in use. The default keyboard on your device should be the Samsung keyboard.

To clear that out, try going to Settings > Device > Applications > Application Manager (Show System Apps) > Samsung Keyboard > Storage.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Have an awesome day!
