Lack of notification for text messages when phone has been idle for a given time.

My problem is I am not getting text message notifications instantly when sent if phone has been idle. If using the phone or it has been opened just recently, I will receive them ok. I have checked with another phone and have found out that the time the message was sent is the same time that shows on my phone when checking time on message but may be delayed in notifying me with a sound or vibration anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes so far, I have noticed.  I have checked my settings and gone through them more than a few times to make sure nothing is keeping it from notifying me instantly along with AT&T troubleshooting my issue on the phone with him seeing my exact complaint as he text me and called me back 30 minutes later and we tried this again with phone being idle the entire time and no notification until you open phone up. He said all was working correct on your end and suggested I go into a store which I have done, and they also went through all the settings and suggested maybe it was just the phone itself but not sure. Of course, he texted my phone while there, but it had not been idle and received the message instantly. When it does this and you check the time sent from other phones mine always matches the exact time but if I happen to not open the phone, I will not know it for a good while. If I just happen to open the phone for whatever reason, then it will notify me and when I check the message it may say sent 10 minutes ago but I had no idea. This is the U318AA that you AT&T sent me because my other phone was not going to work after 2/2022. It just looks like to me it is something to do with sleep, snooze, or doze mode that is keeping it from alerting until you open the phone then it delivers them. Seems if it was network related it would not have the exact times the messages were sent showing on my end.  Is there something I am missing or overlooking here? I mainly noticed this using this phone for work purposes where I need to get a text immediately when sent due two of us working together doing instrumentation calibrations. I thought maybe it was just this phone but when looking online there seems to be a lot having this issue with Samsung's newer iPhones and such. Any help or fix for this issue?

Stopped by a different store and two employees there looked at and went through the phone and changed a setting or two and of course we tried it there and worked flawlessly even let it sit for maybe 15 minutes and tried and it got the message immediately so thought maybe we had made some progress but was not to be as I keep trying it later that evening and still not alerting to messages immediately if been idle for awhile.

At precisely 9:58PM I sent 4 separate back to back messages all within that minute and I let this phone sit idle until it alerted me on its own and at exactly 10:23PM it alerted and flashed the led. Time stamp on phone for that message shows 9:58PM exactly as time sent on other phone but I had no idea until 25 minutes later.  I have checked all updates I could find to check on phone also.

Thanks but I myself have gone through the menus multiple times before ever calling and then also going through them with the AT&T support on the phone and also going into two stores so far and letting them go through the phone and still does this if the phone has been idle for a given time. Could it be some kind of provision in the system or a software glitch or such?

Thanks for the response, @EddieG3.

This sounds like a problem with the device itself. When did you receive the phone from us? Sharing this information will let us know if you're still within the Buyer's Remorse period

Here are some important facts to know about BRE:

  • Original proof-of-purchase is required.
  • Equipment in like-new condition with all original hardware and accessories; representative is responsible for ensuring these conditions are met.
  • We should not accept any returns over 14 days. Exceptions include returns for CRU returns (up to 30 days).
  • Equipment returned more than 14 days after purchase are not eligible for a Buyer's Remorse return.
  • The day of purchase counts as day 0 and the beginning of the next day is day 1 of the 14-day return period. Example: A phone bought September 22 can't be returned later than close of business October 6.
  • A customer can exchange equipment/accessories once within the 14-day Buyer's Remorse (BRE) period from the date originally purchased or shipped.

Please meet us back here with that information, and we'll take it from there.

This phone showed up at my house out of the blue 10/16/2021 and said it was the replacement for the phone I was using at the time since it was not going to work on your system after 2/2022.

If you haven't already, please power cycle your device and reinsert your SIM Card to reset your device. Also, reset your network settings to refresh your connection. Go to the notification bar>Settings icon>System>Reset options>Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth>Reset settings>Reset settings again to confirm.

Ensure that your message notifications is turned on by navigating to the Message app>Menu icon>Settings>Notifications/Vibrate/sound>Toggle on. Turn on your lock screen notifications by swiping down the notification bar> Settings icon>Apps & notifications>Notifications>Notifications on lock screen. Check your device storage to ensure that you have enough space to allow all apps to function properly.

I removed SIM card along with battery and reinstalled and did the reset and also checked the settings which I know are working because when I send a text from another phone and have had mine unlocked it both vibrates and makes notification sound. Memory looks good. The more I try it the more I am seeing what it is doing if phone has been unlocked and receives a text I immediately receive it. I let it sit for approx. 4 minutes and text it and immediately received text. Then I let it set idle for at least 5 minutes or just over and sent a text and then no notification. Instead of waiting until who knows when it may alert me I went ahead and unlocked phone and then it immediately notifies me and pops up on the screen. In speaking with another friend of mine that has an iPhone on a different system said they are experiencing  very similar situation with notifications being delivered late. I always as far as I know receive all messages sent just not always in a timely manner if phone hasn't been unlocked in the last 5 minutes or so.

I’m having this same issue along with other apps notifications being delayed as well. So far Apple has not been able to figure it out. Did you end up finding a solution?

Yes I did, ended up trying the messages app instead of the messaging app that came on the phone which was loaded with the android 10 go edition. That solved my delayed text messages issue I was having. Since then I have also gotten another phone and it runs on the regular android 13 and the regular google messages app and or same as the one I loaded on the previous phone and have had no issues with delayed texts.
