IMEI Registration Apparently Dropped

I have an Alcatel Tetra (Model 5041C) given to me in May of 2019 by a friend. He obtained it from AT&T on a prepaid plan.

Since September of 2019 I have be trying to unlock the device. At first the AT&T Unlock Website reported, Looks like the IMEI number you entered doesn’t match an AT&T device.

Then in October of 2019, AT&T accepted the IMEI number but stated, ...it hasn't been active for at least six months of paid service.

I have been trying to obtain an unlock code every month since then without success. Today, though, that Looks like the IMEI number you entered doesn’t match an AT&T device has returned.

Has AT&T unregistered that IMEI number? How can I get the unlock code for this Alcatel cellphone?

Hey there, @cmbay!

Allow us to assist with your device unlock. We want to advise that you contact the original owner to make sure the device has been active on the AT&T network for at least 60 days (6 months PREPAID) and that it meets our other eligibility requirements prior to submitting an unlock.

We hope this info helps.

@ATTHelp Yes, the original owner of my Alcatel Tetra entered into a prepaid contract with AT&T prior to May of 2019.

Hello @cmbay!

You will still want the original owner to submit the unlock request as there may be a past due or remaining balance on the device or it could be attached to another account (make sure it meets our other eligibility requirements).

Hope this info helps.

@ATTHelp Okay, I'll ask him to try the unlock request himself.

The original owner of my Alcatel Tetra went to the AT&T Unlock website. He signed in as an AT&T customer and entered the IMEI number of the cellphone.

He found, as I did, that AT&T doesn't show that the IMEI number is assigned to an AT&T instrument. His unlock request was denied.

Furthermore, the original owner now tells me that he had a prepaid plan but disconnected the service after about a month. It appears that he is about five months short of the required six months of service.

Do I have any options to unlock this cellphone?

Hi @cmbay,

Unfortunately, since the requirements aren't met you will be unable to unlock the device. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
