I received a Unlock code but my phone does not prompt to enter the code

I received a Unlock code for my Samsung Galaxy S7 Active, but my phone does not prompt to enter the code. I powered on the phone, added the other carriers sim card, and did not receive the prompt to enter the unlock code I received. What am I doing wrong? I contacted Samsung only to have them tell me I need to contact AT&T.

@debrap301  as explained, an AT&T phone with a straight talk At&t sim will not prompt for an unlock code, because it's still At&t service and network.  The locked phone will work with AT&T SIM on straight talk, or any other mvno of at&t.

If you get no service, it's an inactive SIM card.

A locked device would say sim not supported.

Which carrier's sim card are you using?

The carrier we are using is Straight Talk.

Straight talk uses multiple carriers.  A red Verizon sim can't work at all.  An AT&T SIM will work, but won't trigger an unlock code, because it will work even still locked.  Which one?

Hello @debrap301, we'd be glad to help with processing your unlock request for your device.

Please be advised, you only get 5 tries to unlock your phone. After that, you won’t be able to use it with another service provider.

You'll need to proceed with the following steps for finalizing your unlock code request:

  1. Power off the device and insert a non-AT&T SIM card.
    • If your SIM card slot is located under the battery, remove the battery.
  2. Power on the device with non-AT&T SIM.
    • For devices with removable battery, insert the battery back into the device. (Wait for the message: “Enter the device unlock code.”)
  3. Enter the unlock code.
  4. Press OK.

Feel free to reach back out and let us know how these detailed steps worked for you!

Thank you!

At&t - I understand the steps, and followed them. But I never received a prompt to enter in the unlock code after putting the sim card in. I'm aware you only get 5 tries to enter the unlock code, but I have yet to enter it the first time.

Thank you for your response @debrap301.

As the ACE stated, if the sim card is white, you may not get a prompt to enter an unlock code.

Please let us know, once you entered the SIM into the device, if you have service and are able to use the device now. As well, do you get any error messages? As this will let us know what steps we need to take next.

We look forward to hearing from you!

i got the same problem.  As you can see AT&T support (Edited per community guidelines) and they don't pay attention to what you're saying and just copy paste from published help documents.  If there is an AT&T rep that is not a drone that can help it would be appreciated.  Otherwise i'm going to start a small claims case for a new phone.
