HTC One M8 - Disable AT&T address book

I recently reset all data on an HTC One M8 and now the AT&T address book has shown up. I have tried disabling the related application and cleared all cache, but the thing still shows up under my list of address books under contacts. Even another reset of all of the phone data didn't remove it!

The worst part part is that there is no way I can find to prevent it from being the default place for adding new contacts, even with the background application entirely disabled. Obviously those contacts aren't being synced anywhere if the background service isn't even running.

I have never clicked anything to indicate I want to use the service, so it shouldn't be signed up. Any time I've seen something mentioning the service I have always clicked cancel, no, or similar.

How do do I completely get rid of it?  It doesn't show up on my other Android or Apple devices, only his one.

Hello @Billy13!

I am so sorry that this is showing up for you! I’ll be glad to help out here today!

The AT&T Address Book feature can definitely be persistent, regardless of what model device you are using! I have a few options here that should allow you to rid yourself of it for good though. First, we’ll address disabling the application as a whole. To do this, take the following steps:

  1. Open your Settings App
  2. Navigate to Apps
  3. Tap your desired app, then tap disable

Alternatively, you can try disabling the application permissions. There should be an option once you have selected AT&T Address Book in your application manager. Disabling the permissions of the feature will allow you to stop it accessing your Contacts, Phone, or Texts. There is also a Set As Default option on that screen. Make sure that the feature is not set as your default contact saving space.

Finally, there are some things you can do online to disable the syncing of AT&T Address Book. You’ll find all of the information we have about that by heading to our webpage!

Here’s to hoping you found this information helpful and a resolution to your dilemma! Please keep me posted if you have any other questions. Have a good one!
