GSamsung S8 International Version - Unlocked

I just had ATT put a Sim card into an unlocked out-of-the-box S8 international version which uses LTE bands that are compatible with the bands that ATT uses.  Problem is that it only connects at HSPA+ speeds. If I take the ATT sim sim card that works with LTE on my LG V30 and insert it into to S8, the S8 shows LTE connectivity. The ATT Protech advanced level techs say that it's a phone issue even though ProTech Tier 1 said they were seeing Sim Card related errors.

Help please?

@cderek   Because is not a branded phone.   The simple fix you already discovered, and is recommended: activate a new line in an ATT branded phone first, then install in your non branded phone.

I moved my sim from an ATT Samsung to a oneplus 5t and easily get LTE and even LTE+.

Adding the non carrier IMEI does not assure you will get LTE if the IMEI registers on ATT as a 3g device.

As for functions, you will not get HD voice, Wifi calling, etc.

Hello @cderek,

I am sorry to hear the device is not able to receive an LTE signal! I would be more than happy to provide some additional information on this!

The AT&T Network is compatible with many non-branded devices. We are not able to guarantee service for unlocked phones; however, we have a few troubleshooting steps which can be taken to give the device the best opportunity to connect.

The first step will be to update the Access Point Names of the device. This will make sure the settings of the phone are recognizable for the network. If you continue to experience signal issues, you can access our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool for more in-depth testing.

Since the SIM card is able to connect to the LTE network in other devices, it is likely this issue is not related to the SIM, but the unlocked device. We want to do everything we can to get your device connected. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful day!

The issue was that I had to buy insurance in order to speak with Howard in Tier 2 ProTech support in order to get my IMEI number to show up as an SO S8 in a device database at AT&T.  I had to speak with ProTech on 3 separate occasions before finally getting Howard who was a great help.

The first 2 times that I called I was told that me phone would never have LTE since it wasn't AT&T branded.

Why can't the people in your brick and mortar stores ensure that an IMEI number is registered properly and has all appropriate functions enabled?

@lizdance40Thanks for your reply but the number was a pre-existing line on AT&T..... was just going from an LG G3 to. Samsung S8.

But you replaced the micro sim with a brand new nano sim?    This isn’t a phone number issue, it’s a SIM card issue.

@GLIMMERMAN76: I went to a microsim on the S8. Did not replace the/any sim on the S8 but Tier 2 support did straghten out the IMEI device assignment and enabled a few things at their end.
