Group Text Not Threaded

Hey, I've got a bit of a problem. A large group text I'm in isn't threaded, so with each reply to it I get an entire new entry in my list of texts with all the participants listed but replies from only one person in each instance of the group text. It's messy and confusing, I'd really like to fix it.

I'm new-ish to AT&T and until last week I was still using my old T-mobile LG G3 where I was getting this group text normally, as a standard single group text. Around the time this message started my old phone died on me and I switched to a Moto X Pure Edition and in doing so had to swap out my micro sim for a nano sim. So I'm kind of hoping this problem was caused by some combination of those circumstances and not some weird AT&T limitation I'm unaware of. Also I didn't get these texts right away, after not hearing anything since I swapped my phone and sim card on March 24th I suddenly got a deluge of messages all at once yesterday around noon.

So I guess my question is, how do I fix this and what happened to cause this issue?2017_03_31_112529.png

Hi there @OverblownEgo!

Welcome to AT&T! It’s nice to see you have reached out to our Community Forums for additional support on this matter. These days, group messaging is so important for daily activities.

The issue could be a network or device issue. We can try solutions to resolve both. I would first clear the entire message thread. This can assist in refreshing your message inbox as well as clearing any background glitches.

I also suggest toggling your Group Messaging in your phone. You can do this by accessing your Messages > Settings > Group Messaging, uncheck the box then recheck to re-enable. This will refresh the group message setting.

For further measure, you can also reset your message settings to default. Access your Settings > tap the Menu icon > tap Restore default settings. Also, be sure you are connected to mobile data when you are utilizing group messaging. This will ensure timely messages to be received.

If you still experience problems, I invite you to check out our helpful Troubleshoot and Resolve tool. Select your make and model phone, then click on Messaging to get started.

I hope this is found to be helpful. Have an excellent day!

Hey, thanks for getting back to me. I tried all 3 of the steps you suggested. I'm not sure if that fixed anything though because the group text has gone a bit silent. Is there any way for me to recall these messages and see if they're threaded again? Or should I just wait for people to start using it again?

Hi there @OverblownEgo,

Thanks so much for the response!  The best thing to do at this time would be to wait for the thread to be used.  You can send an initial text message to the group to get it started, and see if the replies come through correctly.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any further assistance with this!

Thank you!
