Galaxy S9+ won't download photo messages while on wifi

When I'm connected to wifi, photo messages will not download.  As soon as I turn the wifi off the photos come through no problem.  I have tried it on several different wifi connections, and it doesn't matter which one I'm connected to (even if it's AT&T wifi).  This is something that started quite recently.  It is very frustrating to have to turn wifi off in order to download photos.

Hey there @hgeiling!

Allow us to assist. Try resolving your experience by making sure that mobile data is enabled:

  1. From any screen, swipe down to reveal the notification panel.
  2. Tap & hold either Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  3. If inactive, turn on mobile data.

Now restart your device and try to receive picture messages from your contacts.

Also, make sure to clear your messages app's cache and data to see if the issue persists.

  1. From your Home screen, swipe down to reveal the notification bar and tap Settings icon.
  2. Select Apps & notifications.
  3. Select See all apps.
  4. Select Messages app from the list.
  5. Select Storage.
  6. Select Clear cache.
  7. Select Clear data.

Now reboot your Samsung Galaxy S9 and test whether you're able to receive pictures.

Let us know how this works for you.

@ATTHelp The cache is not - nor was it ever part of the problem and even with the Wifi calling disabled as suggested - it still will not download photos with a wifi connection established.

@ATTHelp this is VERY FRUSTRATING and HIGHLY INCONVENIENT - and needs to be resolved ASAP!

This worked! I just had to clear the cache in my messages app. Thank you!

I have tried all of the above (a few times) and my Galaxy S9+ will still not download the pictures attached to a text while it is on wifi.   As soon as I take it off of wifi and click on the download, the picture downloads in seconds.  This has been happening for the last couple weeks.   Any help is appreciated.

This solution did not work for me. 😡 This has recently become an issue and mainly from one person that also happens to be a ATT user. As soon as I turn off wifi, the photos come through. Really a pain in the rear!

I read on another thread that turning 'wifi calling' off will allow the pictures in a text to download normally while you are on wifi.  I tried this and it worked.  Obviously, the wifi calling should not make a difference, but apparently it does.

Would be great if someone from ATT would respond to this issue.   I am going to call them to see what they say.

The Wi-fi calling suggestion doesn't work either.

I'm guessing @ATTHelp can't really, or does not want to help.

Just got off a Chat with ATT.  They said that this issue with wifi calling turned on and stopping pictures from dowloading is a bug with the newer models of the Galaxy phones.  And that a bug fix should be coming out in the next few days (today is 12/9/2019).

Good to know. It's been really irritating having to turn my wifi off just to get photos to download. Thanks for the update!

Unfortunately, they are wrong. I don't use wifi calling and the issue still exists for me. Just having regular wifi on seems to cause the issue.

Agreed, and @ATTHelp isn't offering any resolution!
