Galaxy s4 missing calls and texts.

I've been having this problem for about two months now, every now and then someone will tell me that they have tried to text me, if I shut the phone off when its back on the the texts will come through, sometimes not till a hour or so later. When someone calls me it wont come through, if I shut the phone off it wont even show up in missed calls when turned back on.

Im not sure what the problem is, when I got my phone it was brand new, there is no damage to it at all. I figured I would ask on here first before trying to call at&t and see if anyone knows what is wrong and if I can fix this.

Thanks 🙂

Hello,
It sounds like you've been running into some issues that could be related to a bad SIM card . The good news is it is a fairly easy fix. If you go to a company owned att store they will provide you with a free replacement card, just make sure you have your drivers license with you and are listed as an authorized user on the account. If you are the main account holder just bring your drivers license or photo id. The new SIM card should fix the issues you are running into. Hope this helps!

OMG! I have talked to several AT&T representatives over the phone about this very issue and all anyone has ever done is run "diagnostics" on my phone, said everything checked out, but replaced the phone anyway, and now this one I've had for about 6 months, is starting to do the same thing! I've even had it shut itself off without anyone touching it.

I'd recommend trying a new SIM card as well, just to see if it makes a difference.

A refurbished phone is not the answer and a different sd card isn't the answer either. I had this problem after the 19 Mb Lookout update to Kit Kat. I refused to trade my well cared for phone for someone else's refurbished problem phone. No one suggested a different sim card. The software update broke the phone. It is now working correctly so I am guessing AT&T finally fixed THEIR problems on THEIR end. At least I hope it keeps working correctly now. It is such a pain in the rear to have to do factory resets to get the phone to even work after a software update. AT&T, Samsung and Google really need to get their act together! My next phone will need at least 64Gb of internal memory since Google has mucked up using a sd card...

I changed nothing with my hardware but the problem seems to be resolved, for now. I can only guess AT&T fixed their problem on their end...Now if only someone would tell me how I can set my default contact storage to Google instead of Device. I really don't appreciate the extra step now necessary to choose my preferred Google storage location.

Same problems here. Started after last ATT software update.

I got a new SIM card a few weeks ago, no help. I just did a factory reset on my phone two days ago...no help.

Same problem.  The issue happened since last update.  I have a new SIM on the way but others have told me it did not fix their identical issue.  My friends that have the S4 with 4.4.2 with other carriers have encountered no such issue.  I am hoping on a magical update to miraculously fix my phone.Smiley Frustrated

Could be AT&T needs to test these updates (June 2014) before they roll them out to everyone.  It would also help if AT&T would allow its customers to make the decision of what they want updated on their phone.  Last time I did the update to KitKat 4.4... my phone wouldn't allow any phone calls and AT&T suggested I take my phone to BestBuy to have it fixed.  I did a factory reset and went back to using 4.3 JellyBean and disabling Lookout Security.

The good thing with google services 5.0 google will be pushing fixes to android out without the carriers and manufactures to screw with it.  This is what will be in android L also.  Google is starting to take back android after watching the carriers and manufactures blame them for there bad software updates.

I have 8 nexus devices in my house and not one has had a problem with kit kat.  The nexus 7 2012's still run it good even tho there almost 2 years old.

I've been having the same problem since the 4.4.2 upgrade. They've changed my SIM, reset my device and (as of yesterday), replaced my phone. I'm still seeing the problem.

I had this problem with the S3 as well as with the Motorola Atrix 2. In my opinion, it's a 4G-LTE tower software issue. I was finally able to get it resolved for at least the towers I normally use, but it took months of back and forth with tech support as well as filing an FCC complaint.

Basically, your phone has two radios. One is used for voice/sms, the other for data. The voice radio shuts off between calls to keep battery life higher, and the notification of "you have a call" is sent on the data radio path. It is then supposed to wake up the voice radio, and if this doesn't happen fast enough, the call goes to voice mail. So the tower software needed to wait a bit longer before sending the call to voice mail.

Same issue, same list of fixes that AT&T support has given and problem persists.

Not sure that this issue is limited to AT&T.

It has made me acutely aware, again, of the fundamental issues of waiting for AT&T to provide a software (OS) update, while they wait for Samsung to do so first.

Since I am not in a contract, it may be time to root the phone and pick up 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 straight from Google.

Same issue. Following advice I found elsewhere, I downloaded an app called "GPS Status & Toolbox" to see how well (or poorly) my phone was able to triangulate satelites and give an accurate GPS status. This has helped me determine that my phone works particularly poorly in certain areas, and there's a 50/50 chance I'll get connectivity in other places (without having to first restart the phone.)

Why has there not been a fix to the KitKat update?? It's obvious that it has screwed up many people's phones.

Did someone found a fix for this issue, I'd call several times to AT&T and they assured me that has nothing to do with the update, but it seems is not true.

I have a Samsung S4 Active, and they already changed my SIM, reset the device, reset the line, made a remote diagnostics, etc., they even change me the device and the issue persists.  Today I went to a Best Buy store and the Samsung specialist just replaced my software version with Samsung's version directly, hopefuly this will fix it.  If anyone has found a solution to this I will apreciate to post it.

Thanks!
