Galaxy S20 Ultra - no wifi calling button
I called AT&T and asked if my sim would work fine with an unlocked phone purchased elsewhere, fine and no problem was the answer.
I purchased an unlocked Galaxy S20 Ultra from Best Buy on offer, put my AT&T sim in - now I find I have no wifi calling button and I can't get wifi calling and texts to work. I was scrounging around the net trying to find what I was missing when I came across a few threads saying that wifi calling is not enabled on non at&t branded (purchased from at&t) cell phones. Is this where my problem lies?
I pay AT&T for my cell phone service, the coverage is terrible in my home location and I rely heavily on wifi calling and messaging. Is my cell phone service bill now going to go down because you are not providing me with part of the service that I pay for?

no they will not discount your services its up to the customer to choose a provider that works for them, wifi calling is not available to non branded at&t phones, you dont pay for wifi calling its a feature on the at&t branded phone and are not obligated to provide all features that a branded phone gets. @lizdance40 am i missing anything?

Samsung needs to put a disclaimer on this. And ATT needs to train its reps better.
You will get VoLTE with the s20 U1 series
But you will not get wifi calling. There are prices to buying a cheaper phone and you just found out why. If your coverage is that bad at home its time to find a new provider and since you have a unlocked phone your good to goto any carrier you like

I have wifi enabled calling on my old S8 and now that I've upgraded to an unlocked S20 I bought from Best Buy, I no longer have that feature. It is important for me because I work in the radiology department and being surrounded by lead all day, the AT&T signal is either at low to no reception. So now, my wife, kids, parents, or anyone trying to get a hold of me can not. Not even via text. Thanks AT&T, your service is pretty much useless for 10 hours of my day, 4 or 5 days a week.

Knowing the policies of companies from which we can obtain service allows us to make choices. Hopefully, you have more than one choice available.

What are the carriers that offer wifi calling, experiencing the same issue and will be switching.

I bought an unlocked note 9 a couple of years ago. Obviously no wifi calling. The fix was simple. I flashed it to the AT&T note 9 o.s. and everything worked as expected. Even ota updates.

My Galaxy s20 plus does not have WiFi calling switch. I bought it straight from Samsung, unlocked and to my huge frustration I am not able to make those type of calls. My son bought unlocked iPhone 12 from Apple an he is able to make WiFi calls. I went to ATT office to try to solve the issue, but they were not able to. They advice me to call Samsung, because “issue is clearly with Samsung”.
I am positive that I am not just only ATT customer who is very disappointed with the issue, since on-line communities are full with reports that this is ATT, who is blocking these type of calls on unlocked Samsung devices not bought from ATT.
I think that ATT, in the name of fair business practices, should disclose this issue for customers, so we can decide if we want to continue ATT service.

Borwets1, there is only one reason why your phone does not have WiFi calling... simply put, AT&T reserves certain features for AT&T branded phones, the notable exception being Apple as Apple has the clout to keep AT&T from doing this to their brand.
There's absolutely nothing at all wrong with your phone. Most carriers these days offer WiFi calling for almost all BYOD devices, AT&T doesn't.

I have a Samsung S 20 FE I called AT&T because I could not activate WIFI Calling. I received this text:
AT&T Free Msg: If your cellular signal is poor, Wi-Fi Calling is available on your phone at no extra charge. Learn more at att.com/wificallsetup
I then was able to activate WIFI calling ONCE!
It stands to reason that they don't want everyone to use WIFI calling all the time, it would be self defeating for them!
However, I live in Michigan and we do have some dead spots! WIFI calling did not activate for me in such an area!
I hope in the event of an emergency (tornado etc) it will activate!
Cheers
