European Samsung S21+ not taking calls under AT@T network since June

I moved to the US in March and took AT@T as mobile provider. I used my newly bought Samsung S21+ I bought in Europe.  Until June all worked fine. Since June I cannot make or take any calls while SMS and Data work.At AT@T they told me that this was due to a system update they did that was supposed to prevent cheap 3G phone to operate under the network, which isn't the case with my phone. They have tried to reset , change Sim but without success. Any ideas what I can do? What is unacceptable by ATT is while this issue is 100٪ caused by them they don't allow me to trade in my phone and get a phone that works..even the same model. Samsung USA also poor service not helping or offering a replacement phone.

AT@T they told me that this was due to a system update they did that was supposed to prevent cheap 3G phone to operate under the network,

Not how any of this works.

AT&T did shut off it's the 3G network, starting in February and finishing by August 1st.

Any phone that is not certified to work with voice calls over the LTE network would be excluded from the network, or voice calls won't work.

It has nothing to do with whether the phone in question is cheap.

Because your phone was not purchased for it in North America it likely is not voice over LTE capable on AT&T. You can check the list and run the imei.   If your phone is not listed, and the IMEI check says you can't use it, then you have to change carriers or change phones. Likely Verizon won't allow it either

Unlocked phones that will work on AT&T

Thank you very much for your reply. I run the test you suggested with the IMEI and my  Samsung S21± is recognized by the ATT network as a phone that should work after the updates they did (i was even suggested various packages after the test). I got the same answer when  I visited their stores, however reality is they didn't manage to make it work. Any other ideas my friends ..?

Hello @Kospap, we're happy to shed some light on the 3G shutdown.

As mentioned by, @formerlyknownas It’s important to check the device model number to make sure it’s still supported after the 3G network shutdown. This includes iPads, tablets, and wearables.

Once you know your device still works, you may need to restart your device or check the VoLTE or LTE status:

  • Your phone will work if the HD Voice feature is turned on. If you can’t make or receive calls, or you’re having trouble accessing data, check the VoLTE or LTE status of your phone.
  • Go to Settings, then Connection. Choose Mobile networks, then Enhanced LTE services, and select On

Since we shut down the 3G network, there won't be data or voice service for devices that don't have at least have 4G capabilities. This means that while some device features might still work, but, you won't be able to access our network unless you upgrade to a newer device.

Keep in mind: AT&T cannot guarantee the capabilities or performance of any individual device that was not purchased directly from AT&T or an authorized retailer of AT&T.

We understand the importance of staying connected. Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.
