Encrypt Device in Android 7.0

I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge to Android 7.0. After the update my device is out of compliance with my company IT settings for not being encrypted, and I can't figure out how to encrypt the device.

My company uses Microsoft Intune to manage devices connected to it's network, and it pushes the Microsoft Company Portal to my device. When working with my company's Help Desk to resolve the out-of-compliance status, they give me these instructions to encrypt my device:

Go to Setting  > Select Lock screen And Security > Encrypt Device or Others settings then click on  Encrypt Device

However, on my updated device, there is no Encrypt Device setting. When I search settings, the only command that pops up is Encrypt SD Card, and I don't have an SD card in my phone.

Any thoughts or tips on how to resolve or work around this issue?

Hello there @nwexploring!

Having the ability to encrypt your device’s data is definitely important. I will be delighted to provide you some information!

If you recently upgraded to Android 7.0, the Encryption option will not be enabled by default; rather, you will have to manually active it.

The good news is if you would like to convert this option to file-base encryption, you can do so by enabling Developer Options.

To do this, please open Settings > About phone > scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap the Build number filed several times to enable the Developer options. Once there, you will find the option to enable Convert to file encryption. Keep in mind this method will erase all of your data.

Please let us know if this works for you. Thank you for reaching out and have an excellent weekend!
