Does Visual Voicemail transcription work on any AT&T androids now?

I had a Pixl3 and transcription worked. I "upgraded" (not really) to a Samsung S20 FE 5G, and the visual voicemail service took a giant step backwards to 2010, when the only thing visual voicemail gave you was a list of voicemails. I don't need to know when someone has left me a vm. I need to be able to read the contents of the vm. I can't get anyone at AT&T to listen to what I'm saying - they just keep sending me the same instructions for visual voicemail, when it WILL NOT WORK ON MY CURRENT PHONE MODEL.

I want to buy a new phone that will give me what I need. i do not want Apple. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Let us share some helpful details about why you can't read your voicemails @.

AT&T no longer offers the voice transcript feature for your device so you will not be able to read your voicemail messages.

You should visit our AT&T website and select Wireless>Phones & devices, then view other devices we offer that do support Visual Voicemail transcription. (You can read about device features and specs by selecting device help.)

Also, here's a reminder of what's required for Visual Voicemail:

  • Have a smartphone and data plan that includes Visual Voicemail (included on most wireless and PREPAID smartphone data plans)
  • Use your own smartphone - you can't set up voicemail from another phone
  • Connect to the 4G LTE data network
  • Install the AT&T Visual Voicemail app if your Android device doesn't already have Visual Voicemail built in or the app pre-installed

Let us know if this helps.

This makes no sense. It is a brand new phone (rolled out in 10/20). I have the top of the line unlimited plan, so visual voicemail is included. I cannot download the VVM app because it says my device is not supported.

Is it because I am on 5G? How soon  might this service be available for 5G phones?

This is just unacceptable for an $800 phone NOT to transcribe voice mails.

Hey there @sdfgarcia67 we'd be glad to provide you with the answers to your questions.

We've confirmed that your device is eligible for Visual Voicemail though, you are unable to review a transcript of the messages. Please review the previous post for devices that are eligible for that feature, and to review it in a text message format.

We hope this helps and thanks for reaching out!

Really Lynn?

Visual voicemail and transcription is a feature on iPhones.

Android phones do not have the option to view transcripted voicemail on AT&T service.

The Visual Voicemail offered on this phone only provides a list of the voicemails in the inbox, not transcription. It does me no good to know that someone has left me a message. I need to read the contents of the message.

I am flabbergasted that anyone would ever think that a LIST of who has left voicemails would be helpful for anyone. I work in the meetings industry, and the ability to read what people are communicating to me is critical to my job function. I am not always in a position to call my voice mail to listen to the messages, so I need to be able to read them.

The read function simply does not work on this phone. The only VVM provided is a list of the messages.

You have switch to iPhone or Verizon.  AT&T no longer offers transcription on Android.  Haven't for a few years now

That's simply not true. My Pixl 3 on AT&T transcribed email. I quit using it in April.

I've been using visual voicemail on a Pixel since the first Pixel in 2016 and now on the Pixel 5.  I don't think I could cope with voicemail without the transcription, which should never have the temerity to call itself visual voicemail.

@sdfgarcia67

That's a Google feature, not an AT&T feature.

AT&T needs to fix this ASAP. This is just one more reason on the ever growing list of reasons that I regret joining AT&T last month. It has not been a pleasant or smooth transition and now I have lost access to message transcripts which I had on Verizon and T-mobile. Switching to AT&T has been like stepping back into the dark ages.
