Can a tablet be unlocked without a sim card?

I have a LG tablet for which I requested an unlock code. My request was approved and AT&T provided an unlock code. However, the instructions indicate I have to insert another carrier's sim card to complete the unlock procedure. I haven't decided yet on a new carrier. Is there a way to complete the unlock without a new sim card?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. You won't be prompted for the unlock code until you insert a non ATT sim. I don't think the sim even needs to be active so if you can get your hands on any non ATT sim, you should be able to complete the unlock.

Yes. For my LG G Pad X (V930), I did the following:

1. Shut down the tablet

2. Remove SIM card

3. Start up

4. Go to dial screen and enter 2945#*930#
5. Tap on "Network Lock"

6. Enter your unlock code

If your model number differs, enter just the number instead of "930" (my model #) above.

I got details on this from this site:
