Blink LED feature does not work while the screen is off - LG Stylo 5+ with Android 10

When I receive a text message my phone makes the incoming sound and the red LED indicator blinks once. However, if my screen is off, the LED does not continue to blink indicating an unread text is waiting. I did before some updates (not sure if it was after an AT&T update or the update to Android 10). when i unlock the screen the red LED flashes once. This makes me think there is a power saving setting that prevents the light from blinking while the screen is off, but i have been unable to resolve.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you,

William

Hello @wpb211

We'd be happy to help with your LG Stylo 5+ blink alerts.

Try completely turning off power-saving mode (option breakdown on page 119), then making sure the "Hearing>Blink LED" and "Hearing> Flash alerts" is turned on.

This will be found under "General> Accessibility.

For detailed information, please check pages 120-121 of the LG Stylo 5+ guide manual if needed.

Let us know how this helps.

With the exception of Flash, which i do not want, all of my settings are as you indicate above. I can't help but wonder if it is a system level app that needs an exception in the background apps permission?

By the way, the link to the user manual got me a 404 error.

Thank you for the response.

Thank you for the follow-up @wpb211.

Can you please confirm these setups.

1. Go to the Settings

2. Look for Sound and Notification

3. Check for Apps /Apps Notification

4. Tap the Action Overflow menu (Three dots at the top right corner of the screen)

5. Choose Show System

6. Look for Call Screen (make sure that Silent was disabled)

For notification on lock screen check:

1. Go to the Settings

2. Look for Sound and Notification

3. Tap Notifications and look for Lock Screen

4. Choose Show all notifications

Please let us know your findings.

Hello,

I verified the settings above. I set the lock screen to show all notifications and it does change the amount of information available in the lock screen notifications when i press the power button to see it. However, I still receive no blinking LED while the screen is off to indicate a text message is waiting. Any other ideas?

Hi @wpb211,

Thank you for reaching back.

Some devices are set up to only have a continuously blinking LED if the device is on silent or vibration mode. Did you notice if there is a difference when you switch between the notification modes?

Also, what version of Android OS are you operating on right now?

Let us know, so we can assist further.

Doyin,

The device recently updated to Android 10. While I was on Android 9 the device would blink the red LED if a message was waiting - regardless of silent or vibrate. I will put it on silent to check if there is a difference, but that is not a very sensible program approach if it is the case.

I'll post my result. Thanks!

Ok. No change. Had the phone on vibrate. got a text. waited a few minutes. no notification. It really seems like the android 10 update changed something for this LG phone to take away the blink.

Hello @wpb211,

We appreciate your feedback.

It may be a software error or modification from the manufacturer. We recommend you contact LG technical support to enquire if this was a know error to them or if there is a software fix in the works.

Thank you.
