AT&T Hotspot block

Hi,

i am not an AT&T client. I recently bought an Unlocked ATT HTC one M8 from ebay.
I cannot open my hotspot settings as it is blocked by ATT.

In my country and with my carrier, I dont need any special payment program to use the hotspot service.

any idea how I can unlock it?

All device unlocks must go through the unlock portal. It will be unlocked if it meets AT&T unlock requirements.

Hi,

Thanks. I have submitted a request and sent my receipt in 3 days ago with
no reply.

Will this portal unlock my hotspot. Because I'm already unlocked for use
with other carriers, it's just the hotspot that isn't working..

Actually if your device is already sim-unlocked (and it sounds like it is) then the issue with the hotspot is one of the firmware on the phone. That is still AT&T specific firmware, and the hotspot feature will not work on other carriers.

You would need to root the device, install a custom boot loader, and then flash a custom rom that isn't locked to AT&T. Use google to search for

HTC one M8 at&T custom rom

And start reading up. And seriously people, if you want an iternational unlocked phone, you should be buying unbranded phones! Even if the phone is sim-unlocked a carrier-branded phone has a carrier specific rom, and (as you can see here) that may cause problems when using the phone on another carrier!

You are right, I was just unaware that they actually block the hotspot.. I
mean, you pay for the data, so why charge extra??
No carrier in my country does that.

Anyway, installing a custom Rom would be problematic - I am S-On and I
can't have a rooted phone- I won't be able to receive emails from work.

But it's only logical that there IS a way to unlock that option - if I was
an AT&T client paying for data they WOULD have opened it for me, right?

I think everyone is talking about the Mobile Hotspot feature whereby your phone becomes a WiFi hotspot and uses its mobile data connection as the source of data. (Or are we talking about using the phone's WiFi to connect to an AT&T or non-AT&T WiFi Hotspot located in a public location?)

Assuming the former... Here in the US on AT&T, I noticed that when I enable the Mobile Hotspot (MH), it first quickly connects to AT&T to verify I'm allowed to use the Mobile Hotspot feature. I guess in other countries, the phone can't complete that verification step and thus you can't use the MH feature. You should be able to, but you can't, unfortunately.
