Because it doesn't have the AT&T firmware, and the IMS configuration won't be sent to it.It's a ploy to get you to buy new devices.

exactly... shocked we haven't had any excuses from employees or at&t fans, sure they're coming, but we know the truth.

Works fine under Red Pocket at&t MVNO, even has the VoLTE Switch option

@macmanjim I went through this same thing with a LG V60 with the 3g shut down.At the time I had 5 devices with installments, and made them eat(take back)4 of them to remove them off my account.I would have walked away from AT&T then, but didn't want to pay for devices that was still branded AT&T and still not be able to use them on Verizon. As of now,I have a cross flashed V60(U.S. Cellular) and it has full network support no thanks to AT&T.Technical support is still scratching their head how I have it working to this day! 😂

Not correct @surgex

Why create the long list of compatible devices that are non AT&T and unlocked and then not allow them to work? The list of unlocked devices is longer than the list of AT&T branded phones.

The only new LG phones that will work on AT&T our AT&T branded because LG is no longer in the mobile phone business and they stopped certifying phones. Older unlocked LG phones were certified before LG quit.

@macmanjim  did you check the imei?   https://www.att.com/buy/byod/identify?devicetype=phone

Each manufacturer has to include a range of IMEI for each model phone tested and approved. If they did not include your IMEI for whatever reason, the phone would be excluded.

Moto is not the Moto I remember from my Pure Edition, not since Lenova took over.  There have been multiple compatibility problems between Motorola and AT&T. For example their hotspots frequently do not work on AT&T. And they did not provide correct unlock codes for many 'Motorola one ace' phones that were branded for AT&T.

ah, the "naysayers" are here.... Yea!

yes, I checked the IMEI with CSR and stated not compatible, again, even though the compatibility clearly lists the make and SPECIFIC model number.

When the CSR informed me my phone was not "eligible" to be applied to my account she followed her script and "proactively" gave me replacement options at the FULL "RETAIL" Price...

at&t posted compatibility. it's their responsibility to stand behind their posts.... at&t should communicate with Motorola for a solution. not part of the customer due diligence... The customer's job is to verify the make and model, with the company they are doing business with...

Agree to disagree "formerlyknownas" not here for arguments, just my opinion ... I know right from wrong, and in my opinion, at&t is not doing the right thing for its customers, again....

@formerlyknownas it is very correct!I know for a fact what AT&T is doing here with unlocked devices and the system blocking them because they don't have AT&T firmware on them.I have swapped firmware on about 10 devices already to make them provision properly.LG out of business has nothing to do about any of this.Any AT&T LG branded device works if it's 4G compatible at the least. That list is worthless, and not worth the time wasted creating it!

@surgex

LG out of business has nothing to do about any of this.

It has some effect... Unlocked phones after they quit didnt get whitelisted.

Any AT&T LG branded device works if it's 4G compatible at the least.

That's too broad a blanket statement.  I am not a fan of broad statements or broadly dismissive comments either.

That list is worthless, and not worth the time wasted creating it!

That list was purposely created between AT&T and each manufacturer as each device was tested and approved. Each manufacturer paid to have their device tested and therefore deserved to have their phone model listed as part of that paid testing process.

Unlocked Pixel and many samsung phones listed are enjoying full services, including 5G and Wi-Fi calling.   Some other brands are also getting full services, something that unlocked phones absolutely did not get prior to the 3G shut off.

That's not to say that there haven't been mistakes because clearly there have been.

@formerlyknownas you forgot Iphones!AT&T jumped on those 3 to make sure they had IMS configuration support no problem. The rest got tossed to the side like bad habits. This kind of goes with sales of devices. They target only certain manufacturers to support sales wise, and the rest are consider not worth the effort to support.Of course the LG devices didn't get support, and the reason was to tell customers they was obsolete so they could sell you something new. Most of the LG devices,v20 and up as an example are more than capable of supporting VoLTE.I have already been through this with the office of the president and I made them re-write the letter to the FCC of my complaint.I know how to make any of them work, and without their lies.
