ATT Android Update for HTC One (M8)
I have attempted twice download and install the newest update for the HTC One M8 from ATT, and both time the installation has failed. Is there a known issue with this update, or is this a problem specific to my phone?

Well, this message from AT&T says we only need a bit more than 1 gb memory to enable this update to install. I have much more than that available and the install still fails after the OTA download. HTC and AT&T need to figure this out FAST because their solution is not a solution.

So the best solution these two companies can come up with, is to tell user to reset their phone?!?!

If it were me, I'd just go with that suggestion to sideload. I know there's all that "at your own risk" verbiage, but really it's a pretty benign process.
This gets around all the problems with the memory constraints, since the stock HTC solution only requires ~1GB, total.
It's easy enough to back up all your data/settings/apps, with Android anyway, in case anything goes awry...

As other people have mentioned, you have to have at least 16gb (I had 18 gb) of open memory to have it work. AT&T needs to change their instructions to say that the download is 1GB, but that you have to have 16GB+ of open memory for it to work. What they should do is a memory check before it downloads and let people know they need more memory so they don't waste time like we did to figure this out!

If you go with the HTC sideload though, you only need about 1.5GB, at best.
I don't have a M8 (okay, we do, but ours is a Win model), but I was looking at the HTC website, and you can get around the ATT "kluge" by going this route.
It'd be cool if ATT posted what happened (seems unlikely, I suppose I could fire up a debugger, but I'd have to flash my wife's m8, which wouldn't be popular, or set up a virtual M8, not sure how hard this is wiht a phone...), but I'm guessing they're doing some sort of "mapped image" with their update, which would explain the 17GB (16GB for the image part, 1GB for the actual update) issue.
Sideloading is remarkably easy, I'd post a link or something, but I'm not sure exactly what I can link to here...

Replying to my own post to let folks know that today I FINALLY was able to get the update to work...had to delete about 10 apps plus move all of my camera pix to the sd card in order to make room in the internal memory (just shy of 16 gb). Now I get to figure out if the time spent troubleshooting this was even worth it.

My HTC M8 is at android 5.0.2 version and when I am checking for a software update it says "current software is upto date" has the new updates been rolled back. What do I do to resolve this issue , it seem it not even acknowledging the availbility of new updates ..!!

AT&T rep knows nothing. Wasted one hour of my time talking to her!!!!
I have 16.71 GB of available space. Have been trying to update since the release on May 12. No luck. Finally gave up and called AT&T today. Guess what, it didn't help either. This is so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!
