Any chance of using my Samsung no-contract phone overseas?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Express Prime phone that is probably about two years old now. I'm currently on the no-contract $45/month plan.
In May I will be travelling to Australia for an extended time. Is there any way I can use this phone there? Can I buy a local SIM and install that, and make it work?
For that matter, could I use this phone in ANY other country? I've heard of GSM vs CDMA. But I don't know what this phone uses, or which system is used in which country.
(Obviously, I could use the phone as it is, in wi-fi mode. But I want call and text capabilities too, as well as the ability to use 4G service away from wi-fi spots.)

It would have to be unlocked first. https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/
It has limited bands which may effect its use. Check with the Australian carriers.
GSM (2G). 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 12(700)

I found this on the AT&T website, but as I click around, I get the feeling it is directed toward contract phones. At any rate, when I log in to my Prepaid account, the "AT&T International Day Pass" and "AT&T Passport" aren't available to buy.

Um, no, you cannot roam on prepaid. You have to unlock and use an Aussie carrier. Sorry I didn’t make that clear.
