Using International Credit Card for AT&T Cell Plan

I had a problem about 11 years ago trying to setup a cell plan using a Canadian MasterCard. The online setup process needed an address with a zip code and, as a Canadian, I don’t have one. I tried using the address of my temporary Florida rental, thinking this would solve the issue. But the system checked the address on file for my Canadian credit card, and of course they didn’t match. The only solution turned out to involve me running off to Wal-Mart to buy a pre-paid Amex card. The system was able to accept this. I haven’t tried this process since, but I need to buy a plan and SIM card during an upcoming trip. Has this issue been overcome yet?

Hey there @tredmond, we'd love to answer your question regarding the use of your International Credit Card for your AT&T plan.

Be advised, we'd strongly suggest for you to continue to use the same process you're using to make your plan payment. If you do plan to use your International Credit Card, we'd recommend for you to use the address on file with that bank in order to process the order.

We hope this answers your question and feel free to reach back out if you have any other concerns.

Thanks for contacting the AT&T Community Forums for assistance.

You’ve missed the point entirely. Someone using an international credit card would not have a US zip code. If the system insists on having a home address with zip code before setting up the account, what’s the point?

We appreciate your reply, @tredmond.

If you're unable to use the specified credit card, we'd recommend for you to move forward with setting up a new card on your account.

We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thanks for seeking help through the AT&T Community Forums.

Again, the point is being missed. Any international credit card would have the user’s home address tied to it. How can you advertise that you accept international credit cards, and then demand a US address with zip code knowing that international addresses won’t have one?

Hi there, tredmond.

When activating service with AT&T PREPAID, international cards are fully supported for one-time payments and AutoPay enrollments, so you won't be required to obtain a prepaid debit card to start service.

In fact, after you start service with AT&T PREPAID, you can set up PayPal for AutoPay or one-time payments:

  1. Go to AT&T PREPAID and select Make a Payment.
  2. Choose how you want to pay your bill and select Continue.
  3. Select PayPal and sign into your account.
  4. Follow the prompts to finish up.

Heads up: Employees at AT&T stores can’t sign you up for PayPal or accept PayPal payments.

Branded credit cards and debit cards such as Mastercard, Visa, and American Express are accepted worldwide. Visa and Mastercard credit cards are more widely accepted abroad.

We hope this information helps. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums.

So, what I’m reading is I won’t be asked to provide a US address and zip code when I choose to set up AT&T Prepaid service in order to use an AT&T SIM card in my iPhone. Thank you!
