use old sim for prepaid

You can not use those SIMs. The SIMs were associated with a phone number and once cancelled they are no longer usable.

It is a post from more than 10 years ago. Do you think that att has not changed this policy? 

Also old SIM cards are not provisioned correctly for HD voice which is a requirement to operate any phone on the AT&T network.
