Sim Kit

When you receive the Sim kit, the info on the Sim kit will that be your login info to your prepaid account? I've been trying to make an account and it won't let me. Also the phone number you get in the email they send you as your confirmation will that be your phone number used to login? How does this work its my first time using this carrier. The amount due each month is that a fixed pay meaning will the pay stay the same each month your charged or will it change depending how much data you've used on the plan.

Whatever you're doing is not correct. You need to activate the SIM card in a compatible phone.

https://www.att.com/prepaid/activations/#/activate.html

During the activation process you create your account on the pay go online website.

You will also select a plan during activation process, set up your alphanumeric password and a security PIN code. Once this is all done you will be asked to select a method of payment, at which time you can change plans if you wish. Please do not change plans after you pay for service because you will have to pay again to resume service.

If you are bringing your own phone, please make sure it is AT&T compatible. The 3-g shutdown excludes phones that were not made for North America

AT&T prepaid plans are as indicated on the website. $30 is a talk text and 5 GB plan. The $40 plan is unlimited talk text and 15 gigs of data. There are also two different unlimited options one includes 10 GB of Hotspot data the other does not.

So I already purchased a sim kit from the online prepaid site is it the same process to setup in your post? I did not get the sim from a store like Walmart or Target. I also purchased the 30 a month unlimited talk and text at least that's what is says. If I purchase an sim kit online, the link you sent is that where you'd go to make an account and enroll in autopay or refill? My phone works with GSM. The website had me enter my phone number which was where I could check the compatibility, it said I could transfer my number? I don't know if thats the right site but it said BYOD on the at&t site.

Well we're in trouble with the phone. AT&T no longer has a GSM network. GSM is 2G technology. AT&T is also shut off its 3-g Network.

You can bring your own compatible device just like you can with any network, but you do have to check compatibility now, because if the phone is not capable of voice over LTE it will not work at all.

Non carrier branded /unlocked phones that will work on AT&T now that 3-g is gone

If your phone starts up with the boot splash of a different service provider, it is unlikely to work on AT&T because it has a different carriers programming on the phone.

Brands that are made to work in Asia like xiaomi, read mi, OPPO, etc will NOT work on at&t.   Huawei is still banned.

So I already purchased a sim kit from the online prepaid site is it the same process to setup in your post?

Yes.  The Sim kit will come with quick start directions. The link I provided includes basic activation, but the Sim kit will come with more specific info if you are porting a phone number from a different service provider.

If you've already paid $30 for the five gig plan there will probably be a prepaid card included which you must use to pay for service.

Your online account, alphanumeric password and pin code are all created during activation and setup. There is nothing you can do prior to activating the SIM card.

Awesome thank you guys so much. Its difficult trying to get support on the website because they'll ask you sign in and thats were I had problems. Also I enrolled in autopay and want to not be enrolled in that do I do this through my prepaid account or through phone. Can you send me a list of instrutions on making an account and refiling my service. I want to pay refill on my prepaid account instead. Can an iphone or samsung be traded in on prepaid service?

Sure thing @AJ711, let's get you the information on your Prepaid Account.

To refill your GoPhone account automatically consider setting up Auto Pay. Please note there is a $10 minimum for debit and credit cards.

  • Refills from myAT&T – GoPhone refill card, credit card, debit card with major credit card logo, or checking account
  • Refills by phone – GoPhone refill card, credit card,  or debit card with major credit card logo

You can always visit your local AT&T store to obtain a refill card or you can go online as well. Feel free to check out our AT&T PREPAID Support, learn how to manage your balance, estimate usage, get device help, and more.

We hope this information helps out for you. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Oh then I'm starting to think autopay has no fee. I haven't gotten my sim kit yet. I wanted to make sure there was an option first. So I think i'll stick with auto pay then, I red there is no fee correct?

@AJ711

Auto-pay frequently has a discount (not a fee) But the $30 + $40 plan do not include an auto-pay discount.

Once you're set up your sim card and logged into the pay go online website you will notice there is a virtual switch that says auto pay on or off. When it's on it shows green. It's up to you when you want to Auto refill you can leave the switch in the on position. If you wish to discontinue service and give up your phone number or not refill for any particular time simply turn the switch to off at least 48 hours if not more before your refill date
