SIM CARD PREPAID NOT WORKS

Good afternoon,

a few days ago I purchased a prepaid sim card and activated it with the unlimited plan. I have tried it on different cell phones but none of them receive signal. I want a solution or a refund of my money.

Did you verify if any of the cell phones you tried are on ATT’s list of supported phones? Service won’t work in an unsupported phone. Did you activate with a new number or did you port a number? If you ported a number, it’s possible the port didn’t complete. If that’s the case, you need to contact the port activation center. Just FYI, a refund is very unlikely. Prepaid generally does not refund.

Hello, thank you for getting back to me. I have tested on a Samsung A53 5G, a Samsung tablet and an Iphone. I can't believe it can't work on any of them.
It's not a portability, it's new number.
I understand that I will not get my money back but I want and need a solution.

Not enough information. A SIM card for a phone will not work in a tablet so that's one down. The iPhone has to be an unlocked iPhone 6 or newer. Any older iPhones cannot work on AT&T.  Samsung a53 5G is not on the list of supported phones and cannot work on AT&T.

So which iPhone?

Ok. yes, it is an Iphone 6 and it is unlocked because my friend can use a sim card purchased in the USA. But the AT&T sim card can't. It doesn't emit signal and I don't understand the problem because it is activated.

It doesn't emit signal

SIM cards don’t emit signals. It’s kind of sounding like the SIM card is not actually activated or a plan is not activated. Does the phone show “no service” or “searching” or something else?

Hi, ! Let's get you connected!

We appreciate our ACEs for their support!

AT&T has recently improved the network to better accommodate next generation technologies and services by sun-setting the 3G network. If you have a 3G device, please note, it will no longer work on the AT&T Network. If you have a 4G device, it may not be compatible and not work depending on where it was purchased and the model #. You'll want to take a look at this list that was constructed to provide all devices tested and approved for the AT&T network. It’s important to check the model numbers.

If your device is compatible but is not connecting, the following may resolve the issues:

  • Program the data settings for your non-AT&T device
  • Get a 4G SIM for your 4G device or a 5G SIM for your 5G device
  • Download the latest software – If you are an AT&T Customer, software downloads are automatic. If you have a non-branded device, you will need to go directly to the manufacturer.
  • Make sure 4G is enabled on your device. Some customers disable 4G.
  • Try a couple of solutions written by some community members

Please come back and let us know if these tips helped!

Yes, when I insert the sim card in the mobile it says "no service" or "emergency calls only".

In the samsung the problem may be the model, but in the iPhone I do not understand what is the problem then.

Hi Rocio95, we are here to help with your SIM Card error message.

The Emergency calls only SIM Card error message simply means that:

  • The device failed to register on the network.
  • Service is not provisioned or was deactivated.
  • There is no SIM in the device or the device is unable to detect the SIM.

We do appreciate sandblaster & formerlyknownas help with probing questions and suggestions.

Here are some few fixes that may help:

  1. Ensure that your AT&T SIM Card is activated by using your SIM Card number, IMEI number(located in Settings>General>About) and your service Zip Code.
  2. Turn off your device, clean your SIM Card with a clean soft cloth and turn your device back on after 20 seconds to reset your device and make sure your SIM Card is inserted correctly.
  3. Learn how to activate an AT&T Plan with a code and make your initial payment to get started.

If this doesn't work, let us know so we can check if your account is active on our end or visit our nearest AT&T store to get a new SIM Card.

Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!

If you put the SIM card into the Samsung or the tablet, it's likely AT&T would have suspended the account until you provided them with an IMEI of a valid device. Of course this is assuming that the account was ever activated properly.

If you can't get help through this forum, I would take the iPhone and the SIM card and go to an AT&T store and ask for help activating the SIM card, and if necessary porting your phone number from a previous provider...
