Is the degree to which they make it impossible to transfer to another provider malicious or merely negligent?

Sort of curious about this; I know it's smart for online companies to make it hard for people to find the "Disconnect" or "Leave Group" button, but at the same time at a certain point this becomes an underhanded business practice that I would imagine they could get in trouble for. What do others here think? Is this conduct intentional or merely negligent? I mean, I'm looking in my own email and it seems they don't send me monthly statements. Probably a state of affairs I agreed to so, I have only myself to blame. However, some customer service here would be helpful. Hard to have a good reputation as a company if you have customers made to feel as though they literally cannot leave.

You can leave anytime you want to leave. Just call in and tell AT&T you want to cancel whichever service you have. Just make sure that you pay off anything that may still be owed on your phones and keep in mind that AT&T doesn't prorate monthly charges so pay attention to your due date and cancel a few days beforehand to minimize the next monthly charge.

If you want to keep your number you get your account number, phone number, and pin and initiate it with your new desired carrier.

If you want to use your phone, and it is compatible, it is easiest to unlock as a current customer.  If you have installments, pay off the phone first.

Of course AT&T doesn't send you monthly statements. Neither does Verizon and I assume other carriers as well.

The only thing you will get if you sign up for it is a notification that you bill is ready. I got mine when I was an AT&T customer and I get it now that I'm a Verizon customer. That notification is so that you will log into your account and read your bill. Which you should do every month with all of your bills.

As far as switching service providers, that is also universal. You either call the carrier and tell them to cancel service, but that will forfeit your phone number.

Or you port your phone number to a different service provider. Each service provider requires an account number and a security PIN code to port your number to a different service provider.

It's also pretty easy to Google how do I cancel wireless service with xxxx company...

Since the OP posted in prepaid, there is no bill for prepaid.
