How do I use my existing prepaid number on a wireless plan

This service is so frustrating beyond belief, the reps on the phone are completely useless in addressing this issue. One of them said its possible to transfer, and when I get there they say "oh, we can't do that". The rep live chat on the website said that I have to call the prepaid department, and those guys kept me on hold for 2 hours before I gave up.

This is the worst experience I've had dealing with a big company such as this. You guys are completely disorganized in how you provide your services.

@user116557763 Looks like store #6&11 are AT&T corp stores. Link below has stores near your location. Click on Store Info and then About. Authorized Retailer will be at the top of the page. Store at Zip 21784 is Authorized Retailer.

Embarrassing for whom? If they cannot help, I can see them being embarrassed. But asking for help on the forum shouldn't be embarrassing for you.

Anyway, I didn't mean for this to go so far and start detracting from your actual issue. I just find it perplexing how someone can be embarrassed for what another entity does. Might as well be embarrassed for any bad choices your neighbor does at their job or in their personal life. Point being, you should only be embarrassed for your own conduct and decisions, not on the behalf of someone else.

@Fl_retire I went to store #6 after specifically calling them ahead of time and asking if they can transfer from prepaid to postpaid. They said yes on the phone, and when I get there, they just used the same app that's on the main website to get my information. Then they go "ohh, we can't transfer from a prepaid, it's never worked."

Hello @user116557763, we are here to help you switch your Prepaid number to an AT&T Postpaid account.

Thank you, @sandblaster  for directing our AT&T customer in the right direction.

You can use the link provided at the bottom of the page. Please make sure you locate a Corporate store, and not an authorized retail store.

Authorized retail stores are privately owned and can have their own requirements on purchases. They do have to follow AT&T guidelines on certain things, but they are independent of AT&T. You may find it different from one authorized retailer to another.

You can locate an AT&T Corporate store here.

At the bottom of this page there is a Store Locator link. When you find a store, there will either be an Authorized Retailer designation or not. If there is no Authorized Retailer designation, it's a Corporate store.

Thank you for visiting the AT&T Community Forums!

@ATTHelp I went to 2 stores today. Using the store locator, one of them was "Authorized Retailer" and the other was not. Both stores went through the same process and both told me I would have to get a new number.

If a corporate store has issue on this, then I would consider a BBB complaint. That goes to the corporate level letting them know about either an individual store issue or if there is a more widespread problem with the process.

That is of course if the official "Help" team on the forum cannot resolve this.

Nowhere did you state you wanted to go from prepaid to postpaid.  I had to decipher your cryptic post and guess which is what I did. You asked how you use existing prepaid number to wireless.  Well prepaid is wireless.

@Constructive go to att.com, there you will see their header say "Deals Wireless Internet TV Prepaid"

att.com official website calls postpaid wireless, if that's confusing to you, its ok. I understand, I've learned that there's a lot of people confused about how att does things.

Well as long as we consumers are as clear as we can be, that should minimize any confusion.

I agree the term "wireless" has been stretched too thin by many companies (not just AT&T) and common usage, beyond what it actually means. Too many people do not understand the difference between "wireless" or "WiFi" and "internet" for example.

Well it’s Tuesday morning and I’m looking at this thread and I can understand having a problem moving someone from postpaid to a prepaid if the customer is trying to take advantage of the new customer deals for prepaid.

There is absolutely no reason or excuse that prevents transferring a prepaid number to post paid, on a customers own account, other than credit issues.
@user116557763  Is your credit good?  Check your scores and history to see if AT&T ran a check.

Service reps are delighted to change someone to host paid and sell them a phone because this looks good for their metrics.
