How do I use my existing prepaid number on a wireless plan

This service is so frustrating beyond belief, the reps on the phone are completely useless in addressing this issue. One of them said its possible to transfer, and when I get there they say "oh, we can't do that". The rep live chat on the website said that I have to call the prepaid department, and those guys kept me on hold for 2 hours before I gave up.

This is the worst experience I've had dealing with a big company such as this. You guys are completely disorganized in how you provide your services.

If your trying to go from att postpaid to prepaid then you have to go into a corporate store. Other than that I can’t understand what your asking.

Oh and to make matters worse I finally gave up and tried to just buy a new phone for a at and t store, wasted 2 hours because the fraud department asked me the birthday of my stepdad. I told her I don't know it and she failed the identity check.

So then I went to sign up manually. The order went through and I was asked to upload an image of my id via a link. The web-link uses the phone camera, and it does't autofocus.

I LITTERALLY CANT TAKE A PICTURE OF MY ID, because the focus is off and it won't let me refocus. I tried it on a pc with a 4k webcam. Nope. The stupid app you guys build to take a picture of the id can't be asked to focus.

This is so embarrassing, its beyond believe. Who are you hiring as your software developers? As a software developer myself, I'm embarrassed that a one hundred and some billion dollar company can't make a simple webpage allows us to upload an id.

Thanks @Constructive for your 100% useless answer and "Other than that I can’t understand what your asking."

Way to keep up the amazing experience I've had with AT&T.
I asked how to go from prepaid to postpaid no the other way around.

Love how you drop the "go into a corporate store" like people know what the (Edited per community guidelines) that means. Simple google search shows dozens of forum posts on this and other website asking the same question. I know your store locator sure as (Edited per community guidelines) doesn't have that information.

@Constructive I think they want to move a prepaid number to postpaid.

@user116557763 Moving a number from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid can only be done in store, preferably a corporate store.

@sandblaster I don't know what a corporate store is. I already went to 2 stores after explicitly asking them If I can transfer my phone.

Then I get there, watch them put the info into the same web-form I did and then they tell me "I can't do it".

If someone could please explain how to find a (Edited per community guidelines)ing corporate store near zip 21784

This is a public forum of other customers. Any with the "employee" tag are posting on their personal time. They don't have to offer any kind of help, but some choose to do so.

You are embarrased how someone else designs, runs, or otherwise manages a company that you don't? That seems odd. You should only be embarrased for situations that come from you, not another entity you have no control over.

A corporate store is a store owned and operated by ATT meaning store employees are ATT employees. An authorized retail store is independently owned and operated and store personnel are not ATT employees. It used to be easy to determine if a store was corporate owned or not. Not so much anymore.

@Juniper let me add spending my Monday night asking questions on "a public forum of other customers. Any with the "employee" tag are posting on their personal time. They don't have to offer any kind of help, but some choose to do so." to my embarrassment list.

Its pathetic that official employees and support phone numbers could not give me a straight answer.

You shouldn't be embarrassed because of what others do. Only what is yours. Otherwise, you give all your power to someone else.

@Juniper I'm currently asking for help on a public forum because AT&T employees could not help me.

That's embarrassing.

@user116557763 Looks like store #6&11 are AT&T corp stores. Link below has stores near your location. Click on Store Info and then About. Authorized Retailer will be at the top of the page. Store at Zip 21784 is Authorized Retailer.

Embarrassing for whom? If they cannot help, I can see them being embarrassed. But asking for help on the forum shouldn't be embarrassing for you.

Anyway, I didn't mean for this to go so far and start detracting from your actual issue. I just find it perplexing how someone can be embarrassed for what another entity does. Might as well be embarrassed for any bad choices your neighbor does at their job or in their personal life. Point being, you should only be embarrassed for your own conduct and decisions, not on the behalf of someone else.

@Fl_retire I went to store #6 after specifically calling them ahead of time and asking if they can transfer from prepaid to postpaid. They said yes on the phone, and when I get there, they just used the same app that's on the main website to get my information. Then they go "ohh, we can't transfer from a prepaid, it's never worked."

Hello @user116557763, we are here to help you switch your Prepaid number to an AT&T Postpaid account.

Thank you, @sandblaster  for directing our AT&T customer in the right direction.

You can use the link provided at the bottom of the page. Please make sure you locate a Corporate store, and not an authorized retail store.

Authorized retail stores are privately owned and can have their own requirements on purchases. They do have to follow AT&T guidelines on certain things, but they are independent of AT&T. You may find it different from one authorized retailer to another.

You can locate an AT&T Corporate store here.

At the bottom of this page there is a Store Locator link. When you find a store, there will either be an Authorized Retailer designation or not. If there is no Authorized Retailer designation, it's a Corporate store.

Thank you for visiting the AT&T Community Forums!

@ATTHelp I went to 2 stores today. Using the store locator, one of them was "Authorized Retailer" and the other was not. Both stores went through the same process and both told me I would have to get a new number.
