Continually get "port out request failed because of invalid pin" error when trying to port my prepaid number to another service

HELP please.  I've spent a WEEK trying to port my existing ATT prepaid number to another service (Hello Boost has 15 GB data unlimited text, talk, for $260/year and Mint has the same package for $300/year vs. ATT only having 8 GB data per month.  I'd happily stay if they'd match either of these services) Anyway, I'm trying to port out to another service and continually I get "port failed due to invalid pin", I request another PIN - same thing, constantly.  Am I forever tied to ATT now?  PLEASE release my number.  I have to re up a year of service on 6/13/22 and I don't want to be tied to a more expensive/less data plan forever because of your continual errors.

This is a customer populated forum.  Best to call AT&T.

Did you call for account number? You must call for it

I have the account number, that is not the issue. I am getting a port pin error, not account number problem. Calling ATT (especially prepaid) is useless because everyone knows nothing and gives a different answer.  I am probably just going to give up my number I've had for 15 years to be free of them.

There’s a new process when porting out of prepaid, they send you a text that you have to respond to in order to port out. Just started this week. Are you getting that text?

I'm getting a text saying this:

AT&T Security Msg: A request to transfer (number) from AT&T to a new service provider is in process. If you did not request this change, call 888.898.7685.

This does not ask for a response if I want it to happen

Call 888-898-7685, wait for the system to ask for the number you’re calling about, don’t enter it, and press zero. When the rep comes on, let them know the trouble you’re having porting out.

They don't have a clue when I talk to them.

M e l l i r a thank you for the response but that did not help. You directed me to the number to Port my number into AT&T I am wanting to Port out. I went through all of the prompts and it transferred me to the worthless prepaid number for customer service. This is a vicious cycle there is no one at AT&T that seems to know what they are doing I am stuck with you forever I've already lost 246 to Boost Mobile because I couldn't get this number to port and they would not refund my money. I am sick of this run around and I would like some help please no one reads and understands my situation.

I am trying to Port out from AT&T to another provider who offers more data unlimited text and talk for less money.

I am constantly getting an AT&T pin invalid number when I try to Port no matter how many times I call and get a pin or get one text it to me. I continually get an invalid PIN error which is preventing me from recording my number out.

Problem has nothing to do with my account number.

I am porting out not porting in so do not respond please with that information.

Well, the porting department helps with port outs, the best you can do is try to get transferred to an advanced/tier 2 port rep. If they can’t help you at 888-898-7685, you’re out of luck.

I request another PIN

You don't request a port out PIN for AT&T Prepaid. That is only for their postpaid service. For prepaid your use the 4-digit PIN that YOU set for your account. I transferred the 3 lines on my multiline account to another carrier this week and it went perfectly. I simply provided each line's account number and 4-digit PIN . If you don't know or never set the 4-digit PIN(not the online password), log into your account and reset it.

Did you call for account number? You must call for it

@formerlyknownas

Prepaid customers can also simply log into the myat&t website with their paygonline credentials to get their account number. That is the only useful functionality that myAT&T provides to prepaid customers. It literally serves no other purpose. They need to use a browser not the app.

Hello @khinmn, we're happy to help with additional information for porting out your Prepaid number.

AT&T Prepaid and business accounts don’t need a Number Transfer PIN at this time. If you are requesting your Prepaid PIN you can reset your PIN with the following steps.

  1. Go to the myAT&T sign-in page.
  2. Select Forgot PIN / Password.
  3. Enter your wireless number and choose Request Online Password or Request 4-Digit PIN (you can select both).
  4. Select Send PIN / Password. We’ll send a text with the temporary info. Have Wireless Home Phone? We’ll call you with your info.
  5. Enter the temporary info and select Continue.
  6. Follow the prompts to create a new online password or four-digit PIN.

Heads up: If you sign in with wrong info three times and reset your password, we'll remove your stored payment info. It’s for your security. Make sure to re-enter your payment info when you sign in with your new password. Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Thanks for the reply, after hours on hold I discovered that unknown to me, ATT had "locked" my account from porting so I had to request it to be "unlocked" and 3 minutes later my number ported.  This is after I spent nearly a week of my own time to fix this, took a day off of work to resolve to port issues and lost out on the best deal on prepaid wireless.
