Hello there, @Strangor! Here is what you can do to get connected.

If this is a new or replacement phone, you may need to activate your AT&T PREPAID device.

Device already activated? Make sure your account is current. Dial *777# from your AT&T PREPAID phone to get a text message with your balances. The text will give you your account balance and other account details like your data balance and package info.

You can even view your AT&T PREPAID usage details online:

  1. Go to att.com/myprepaid.
  2. Go to Account History.
  3. Choose start and end dates. You can select up to 30 days at a time.
  4. Select a History Type.
  5. Select Submit or Export to PDF.

Visit Check your AT&T PREPAID usage to learn how to view your AT&T PREPAID data, talk, and messaging usage details, package charges, and payments.

Give this a try and let us know how this works for you. If your experience persists, reach back out and let us know the make and model of your phone. We want you to be able to get connected over our network.

Hello Lar, thanks for the info and comments. After much time on the phone with CSR from AT&T it seems I have to have a firmware upgrade on my Samsung Galaxy S10+. He put me in touch with Samsung CSR who tried everything he could but came to the same conclusion - upgrade needed. No way to do it Wi-Fi, must be in person.
