At&t prepaid international plan renewal

I have multiline account which auto renew every month and also I have $10 international calling plan with auto renewal. So every months at&t deduct s total amount (plan amount+10$ international plan) + tax, one day before my plan renewal. After plan renewal completed , $10 stay as account balance until international minutes renewal date( which is 5 days after plan renewal). This 27th June my plan got renewed and I was having $10 account balance till yesterday, also I was having 1200 international minutes from my last month balance. I received below text from At&t on 27th June which confirm that I was all set for my international plan renewal today.

“AT&T free msg: Your AT&T PREPAID $10 International Plus LD Add-On auto-renews on 07/02/19. To manage your account, go to att.com/myprepaid or call us at 611.”

however when I made an international call today morning at 7:41 AM, at&t charge it from $10 balance ( neither from last month 1200 minutes nor from my this month minutes ). Now as there is not sufficient balance for $10 international plan , auto renewal cancelled automatically.

when I called at&t customer care they told me that my international plan got expired in the morning 4 am but renewal pending till 12 PM, so whatever call I made in between 4 am till 12 pm will be charged at actual.

this is unbelievable. Then what is the meaning of auto renewal if there is a time gap between plan expiration and renewal. And why I need to pay for it?
