$300 Prepaid Promo porting - will need to relocate - will lose $300 balance
We're from New York and my daughter goes to University in Rochester. Purchased an iphone 7 and $300 prepaid promo online. But since her delivery address was Rochester, online ordering portal will not let me select New York number - only Rochester and suburbs area code
Also, her current New York number beginning 929 is under my name (she was a minor until now). I want to port this number to her name now that she is 18 years. If I were to choose "use existing number" in online ordering portal, it will pre-populate port-number account name with my daughter's name (won't let me change it to my name)
Spoke to multiple reps and chat agents and was told porting will fail if name is different. They suggested to go ahead with a Rochester number and get the porting done in any AT&T corp store after showing invoice of ported number (under my name) ... and it'll be ported over to my daughter's prepaid account
Well, I go to AT&T store, store rep activates phone under Rochester 585 number, then says he can't complete porting. Ask's me to talk to prepaid customer service, who tell me to call porting team. Call porting team on 888-898-7685 and they tell me to call prepaid and ask them to "relocate number on same market code as 929". Call prepaid team again and they say I'll lose $300 credit if they "relocate number". Then they suggest to call porting team as "they have more tools to do the porting". Called porting team again and they say they cannot port if market code is different
So I sat in the AT&T corp store for 3 hours tossed between prepaid team and porting team. Finally store rep suggested to use Rochester 585 number for one year and port over when there's zero balance left in account. I guess I'll have to pay the $36 porting charges then
I would have selected a New York number during ordering, but since shipping was in Rochester, I was given only Rochester area code to choose from
Phone was activated 25-Aug so I'm still withing the 30 period for free porting
Anyone have any suggestions ?

Hello @NZGuys,
Thank you for reaching out to us. At this time, for the AT&T PREPAID promotion that you're referring to, the AT&T store representative has provided you with the best suggestion. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I assume you still have the number active on your account? If they can’t port and you want to save her number, port to google voice. $20 one time fee. She can use GV app on her phone, and port it where she likes next August
