What is the incentive for staying with this ATT&T?

I have been using AT&T since it was once Cingulair. And I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for. So I never mind paying a little more to get better service with you my plans. But now my two year contract is up. Like I have done in the past I want trade my phone up and sign up again. However I was told that now I can just trade my old galaxy s3 up and get a discount on something like a s5. I have to pay out right for it, and still sign another contract. I dont get why I would want to do that? Why would I wanna pay more when I already budget my phone bill for the past 2 years. The plan fine, the cycel of every two year I can upgrade my phone to the newest hottest device for max $200, has always had a charm. Why cant   I do that anymore with out be penialized? I figure staying with the company means something. I just feel like just another faceless number.

One caveat is they are not required to include tax. Another is giving you
$5.00 off a month for a year as a promotional item.

I asked for a particular package that said did not exist. In February I
changed programs 3 times and was e mailed a PDF fike listing all their
offerings. Guess what. What I asked for was listed. These sales people
LIE, LIE and LIE. Maybe they have quotas??? I now have what I asked for
and to get even they, (AT&T) have made Outlook 2010 almost unusable.
However If you had E Mail accounts under the old DSL you might be able to
create a sub account and use one of the unusable accounts in Outlook as an
alias. I did and have had some limited success.

Read and print everything AT&T has to say about E Mail. They want us to
use web mail as we will have to view Advertising. Another rounds of
problems with AT&T and I am gone. Outlook is a full featured app . the
only web mail that comes close to Outlook is Google.

Most ISP's are dumping pop mail accounts these days.  Besides here at work I dont use outlook.  but then again we have 32000 users on OWA accounts.

Not to hard to figure out when you read the paper bill. That is why AT&T
is trying so hard to eliminate paper bills. We can throw a wrench in
their philosophy by paying our bills by check!

Just because they are trying to save money on paper, you are still able to view your bill on line(PDF).

"Free" phone for a current customer does not mean that you do not have to
pay for the service.

But, it does mean that you do not have to pay MORE for the same service. I
have been with AT&T for many years...and I have selected "free" phones in
the past and not had an increase for keeping the same talk, text, and data
plan.

You are correct that you must be 18 to sign the contract...but it does not
mean that the web advertised price can be manipulated once you make the
selection. I don't think anyone believes that the phone and services are
free, be for real. But, my loyalty of signing a new 2 year agreement is
worthless to AT&T because they would rather be in the business of
smartphone finance. 18-year-olds (in age and mind) often want devices that
are out of their price range...so they finance. No problem, but that is not
my problem, so why should I pay for it.

Where is honest and fair pricing??? Anyone know?

All mobile data share plans have a $40 fee for adding a smart phone to the plan. You get a DISCOUNT for not choosing subsidy pricing. I.E. Next or buying outright clearly stated everywhere. Know what you are buying. If you choose subsidy pricing obviously the phone is out of your price range as it is more expensive to buy outright.

Not a penalty? Really?

So, if you buy a new car (same exact model, different year, same number of
quarts of oil, etc..) and you take it to the same dealer for your regular
oil change and they charge you $25 more because you bought a new car from
them...is that a penalty?

I've bought several cars from the same dealer for years...NEVER have they
increased the cost of a basic service because I gave them more business.
If a dealership can figure that out...and AT&T can't...WOW!

Have you checked their stock prices? But, there is one good fact about the
tenacity in which "customers" are defending these tactics. I should
continue to receive my dividend checks...since so many people like paying
more. LOL

Thanks AT& T customers...I'll cash the checks and spend them
elsewhere...maybe Verizon

At this point if McDonald's offered a "McPhone" I'd join!

I have never paid 30% of the cost of a car and agreed to a 2 year contract of buying service from the dealer. Apples and Oranges

The comparison is the "service" not the cost differential.

Talk, text, and data= service
Oil change= service

Phone- product
Car-product
