What is the incentive for staying with this ATT&T?

I have been using AT&T since it was once Cingulair. And I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for. So I never mind paying a little more to get better service with you my plans. But now my two year contract is up. Like I have done in the past I want trade my phone up and sign up again. However I was told that now I can just trade my old galaxy s3 up and get a discount on something like a s5. I have to pay out right for it, and still sign another contract. I dont get why I would want to do that? Why would I wanna pay more when I already budget my phone bill for the past 2 years. The plan fine, the cycel of every two year I can upgrade my phone to the newest hottest device for max $200, has always had a charm. Why cant   I do that anymore with out be penialized? I figure staying with the company means something. I just feel like just another faceless number.

In which universe is it acceptable to pay MORE for the same service because
you responded to a solicitation from a company?

AT&T and every other company has the right to change plans, policies,
etc...but it does not remove the ability or right for customers to call it
as they see it.

I continue to find it interesting that "non-employees" are posting the fine
print. What is your discount? Is it available to all customers?

I am sorry, but I am doing what the employees are not able to do. Tell you to look in the mirror and tell you to take responsibility for what you do. If you have been with the company for more than 2 years then you were on a plan that you would pay the same regardless if you are on a 2 yr contract or on the NEXT plan or own your device. It was YOUR choice to go on one of these newer shared plans. If it wasn't for the discount to those who are on the NEXT program or own there device the NEXT program would fail. Just because you think you deserve 2 discounts doesn't make it right. In the end you have a choice. You can deal with AT&T or go to another carrier with the exact policies except for T-Mobile since you cannot sign a 2 yr contract with them.

No, companies have an obligation to customers, stakeholders and employees
to provide accurate and accountable information. When organizations are
allowed to repeat (and re-state) the same ludicrous statement without
recourse we are not being responsible citizens.

As you continue to state...we all have choice

I guess I do too...in a way, since I am a stockholder.

I got caught with a similar problem. When I changed plans I paid my
monthly bill but it was credited to ny old account. No one told me that I
was to nmake my payment to a new address. I was harassed for over 2 weeks
until a "intelligent" employ figured it out and corrected the "nonpayment
and overdue". They did remove the penalty after I insisted on a PAPER
BILL!!!. Other wise I would not have known of the overcharges and
incorrect posting to an old account.

When my contract is up they will be gone and I will not buy the cell phone
that I was considering buying from AT&T but go with another carrier.

How awful. You made a mistake, and they credited back the penalty anyway.

Until about 17 months ago, the line fee was $40. Set in stone all carriers $40 per phone line. Data was a separate charge. It didn't matter how old your phone was, how long you kept it. Still $40 line access fee.

Then AT&T said, if you buy your own phone, we won't charge $40 anymore. We will put a credit on your bill of $15 or $25 depending on the size of the data plan.

The "free" phone is probably a couple hundred dollars to buy at full price, then you keep the line discount. Otherwise your loss of discount covers the phone cost.

Since all carriers are now requiring customers to buy their phones, you can go where you like, the problem you have manufactured in your head will still exist.

Quit bombing the forum with untrue statements based on the idea that AT&T has done you wrong.
If anyone is "unappreciated", it's the carrier for offering a discount at all.

For the record. Employees are clearly identified. All my phones are paid for so my bill for 6 phones and 2 tablets with $130 GBS of data is $240 before tax. My previous carrier, Verizon was billing me $360 for 4 phones and 6 GBS of data. That amount was pre-discount days.

They made the mistake of crediting the old account instead of the current
account and could not find their mistake until a "sharp" employee figured
out where the payment was by me explaining changing plans. DUH!

I ended  doing the the next 30 plan for galaxy s5. I waited for the 6 to come out making the s5 cheaper. Since the s6 is a pile of crap for another thread. I also did the  "free" tablet promo. Which ended up costing me a line to my plan which i dont need since i use wifi at home so i am basically paying $10 on a 2 year contract so $240 tablet. Still cheaper but not free.

My main thing is why am i paying full price to upgrade my phone. I been with you for 15  years with phones so give me 15% discount off the phone acutal price. Just to say " Hey thanks for not going anywere else. We appriecaite loyality more than small increase in profit" I just want them to give me a lil foreplay before they have their way with me with out lube. I waited 3 years for a new phone I did save for an upgrade. So taking advantage of Next make sense. I just dont have to like it.

I dont leave becuase i like the plan and the  service.  I also like the option to complain about service lacking with a company i think can accomadate this.

Another incentive? The high price of moving jobs out of the country. http://www.dailydot.com/politics/att-fcc-phone-unlocking-scam-mexico-philippines-colombia/?fb=dd
