Visual Voicemail Not Working Samsung Note 20 Ultra

I recently switched from another carrier to AT&T.  I brought over my Samsung Note 20 Ultra and phone number from that carrier.   At the AT&T store, the manager downloaded the AT&T Voicemail Viewer app for me.  However whenever I try to sign in to the app, I get an error message saying "Sign In Failed, Incorrect Number or Pin".  I called AT&T tech support, reset my pin, downloaded the app again, but I'm still getting the same error message.   The person in tech support told me it might be because I have an unlocked phone, and that there is no option for me to access Visual Voicemail.   Is this true?  Is there anyway to access Visual Voicemail from my phone?

We can answer your question on Visual Voicemail Requirements!

 

What the tech support representative said is correct. 

 

Unlocked devices brought over from different carriers are unable to use the visual voicemail feature/VVM mobile app. 

 

However, you can still access the basic/enhanced voicemail by press and hold the 1 key on the device keypad.

 

If you have additional problems with VM, you can also access the Device Troubleshoot & Resolve/Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and scroll down to Fix an Issue > Service issues > Voicemail to follow the steps provided.

I am an experianced IT guy.  Visual Voice mail does not work on ATT locked s20 note or on unlocked s21 while regular voicemail work fine on both. Both newly purchased and provisioned.  Neither the rep at an ATT store nor the Samsung guy at Best Buy could fix them.  Multiple attempts via phone support have failed as well as hours of internet searches.  Obviously ATT software group had some issues keeping up.

I bought my Samsung Note 20 Ultra in May 2021 (unlocked, bought at Samsung online store), visual voicemail worked from that time until January 28,2022. I updated my phone software January 26, 2022. When I go to Google Play, when I click it, it says 'Your device isn't compatible with this version'. I think it has something to do with the updated software from Samsung Note 20.

I used the instructions here. https://cellularnews.com/mobile-network/visual-voicemail-not-working/ and it worked., visual voicemail now back. so I clear cache and clear data. so visual voicemail worked again

@euceur that app is only compatible with very old operating systems.

@formerlyknownas Well, after clear cache and clear data on the phone settings from the suggestions here  https://cellularnews.com/mobile-network/visual-voicemail-not-working/ , I was able to get it running on a Samsung Note 20 Ultra. So guess, I am lucky.

It still works on unlocked phones.  I still use it on test phones.
