Unlink my directv account from my wireless account

I want to remove(Unlink) my Old Directv Account from my Wireless account. When attempting to do so, it will only unlink my Wireless Account. Can I do this and set up a new online account?

We can definitely help you remove an account, @MLB1276

You must remove the linked accounts via myAT&T. Before you start - first, make sure your DIRECTV account is paid in full. If you try to remove a canceled account with a balance due, you’ll still have a chance to make a payment.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Profile.
  2. Select Sign-in info.
  3. In My linked accounts, choose Remove this account for the account you want to unlink.
  4. Select one of the following, if prompted:
    • A secondary user to replace you as the primary user
    • No one
  5. Choose a new primary account, if prompted.
  6. Follow the prompts to remove the account from your ID.

We've included a link above for more information. Please give it a try and let us know if we can provide additional support. Thank you!

@ATTHelp i did all that but it will only allow me to unlink my Cellphone account. My Directv Account has been shut off, guess I should have unlinked it before shutting off my Directv services!!!!

@MLB1276,

Since your DIRECTV account is cancelled you are unable to unlink it from your online account.

Have you ever set up a user ID for just your wireless service?

We want to ensure that you have tried all options to get your wireless account unlined from your DIRECTV online account. We hope to hear back from you soon.

The account I have with both Wireless and Directv was originally setup for just wireless then I linked them together as 1. Can I make a new account for just Wireless?

Greetings @MLB1276,

Since the attempt to unlink your DTV account from your wireless is not going through, we recommend you follow the option available, which is to unlink your wireless account.

Let us know if this helps.

This is the most stupidest and incomplete information an AT&T employee could ever provide.  I too am having the same issues.  If we were supposed to unlink the Directv account FIRST, that would have been helpful - since it can't be done now!  And why again - can't it be done now???

Also, if you suggest we unlink our wireless account, then how would we access it for future use if it were not linked? Is it possible to make a new account?  Here is where more information would be most helpful!! AT&T wanted me to use my email address as my login name, but it is linked with an old AT&T account before I combined my accounts and it won't let me.  This company needs to spend a little time on their own network and you might see why your customers are frustrated.

Hi there, lorrieseymour!

We understand that you are trying to unlink or separate the AT&T Wireless accounts and your old DirecTV account.  We do want to help you do that.

If you could please, make a new thread on the DirecTV forums, so we can take you into a one-on-one interaction.

We do look forward to assisting you with your DirecTV account concerns.

Thank you for choosing the AT&T Community Forums.

Currently, there is no option to "unlink an account" under linked accounts under "My Profile". I have spent hours trying to remove an account belonging to a stranger that has ended up under my account.

The ATT wizards are unable to perform this operation. Very frustrating.

I was able to find a work around. Now I’ve canceled Directv so I still currently still have access but here’s what I did. There is no option to remove the linked DTV account. I logged into Directv and changed my user name to a different email. I then logged into the AT&T app and under manage profile I changed my user name to a different email as well. One that’s now different from the Directv login. I then went to the website for AT&T and hit forgot password and used the new username I had changed on the app. This time it prompted me to change my password and logged me into my account on the actual website which is what I had been trying to do all along. So I guess to shorten it, try and change your user name in the app to something different then try to change your password through the website.
