With an unlocked phone I can get a local SIM which gives me a local number, which I require for my work.   However,  I got a new phone which is of course locked.  Do I have to get a second phone to be able to get a local number?

@stevefil

Yes.  Your locked AT&T phone will not accept a SIM card from any other service provider

Hi @stevefil

Thank you for reaching AT&T Community forums. We hear you and understand your concern. We're here to help you. As the ACE mentioned, locked AT&T phones will not accept other service providers SIM services.

@stevefil  There absolutely is a way to use a non-AT&T SIM in an AT&T phone.  Meet the unlocking eligibility requirements and get the phone unlocked.  Then you can use any SIM.

Hi @stevefil
We wish to inform you that devices need to be paid off completely in order to be able to use other service carriers.

Thank you

Seems like there should be more options than the $10 a day plan and also to allow for local numbers through your affiliates .,  I'll get another phone for the trip . .$10 a day and no local number will not work for me.
