Suggestions for international travel
Hello,
I am going to Europe on business for a week. I am going to get the $40 passport via AT&T for international coverage while away. Unlimited texts is pretty cool and I understand that only pertains to customers who have unlimited domestic texts and also AT&T to AT&T customers only. In addition, are there any other suggestions as in things to turn off, switch on, etc. I will deactivate as much as I can in the way of location services and deactivate other email addresses that are not critical while away. Any other suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

Your understanding is not quite right. You can text anyone, not just ATT customers. Also, incoming texts are covered by your domestic text plan, not by the Passport plan. It does not matter whether you have an unlimited domestic text plan, a grandfathered text plan or the pay per use plan. Any of them would cover incoming texts.
You don't get much data with the Passport plan so the rule of thumb I always follow is to turn data roaming off and only turn it on when I want to use data, then turn it back off when done. In my experience, you don't have to worry about individual settings doing it that way.

Picture texts are included. Sending or receiving a picture message requires a working cellular data connection, so cellular data must be on even though the pics don't bill as data. I'm able to send and receive pics on an iPhone with cellular data on but data roaming off.

Forgot to ask if pictures are included in texts?
I remember reading that it was. Is there a limit for size of pics or the phone will compress automatically right?
So when I land, turn data roaming function off and only turn on when I have to use data or not in wifi. Im almost certain wifi is present where I will be most of the time but I don't want to go over data when not in wifi which can easily happen as I agree its not very much. I have a galaxy s7 active via AT&& and also Iphone 5c via verizon for work. Work plan is 250 texts both incoming and outgoing including, 250 mb/data, and 250 voice minutes. So between both phones and wife face time etc, I will be good.
Thank you again.

Thanks again. By default, data roaming is always off on a galaxy s7 active, right?
So I added the $40 passport plan to be effective for Sunday. While reviewing my plan, I noticed both my phone (galaxy S7 active and wifes phone - Apple Iphone 6) both have a pay-per-use-rate plan. Is this by default? Not knowing, I deacitvated the par-per-use plan on my galaxy as I didnt want a chance to be charged incorrectly. Spoke to someone at AT&T via live chat and was informed it was irrelevant that I deactivated the pay-per-use rate plan as the passport plan will take precidence. Just want to double check. Do I need to re-add to my phone after I return home? Is it ok to keep as is on my wifes phone?
Thank you much again.

Don't count on the default, check it yourself.
If you get there and you cannot call or text, turn pay per use back on (can't remember if you need to power phone off and reboot). I think it's supposed to be on (I've seen lots of contradictory info). Let us know how it goes!
And when you review on-line you can see the passport plan turned on, right?
Please let us know how it turns out so I know whether to suggest this again to somebody...

Ok I will check out the default setting.
Do you suggest re-adding (pay-per-use-) now or waiting till I get there to see?
I wont get charged for adding it right, I mean I would think the passport option will override.
Yes, online it shows I am signed up for passport, effective 11/6/16 but now pay-per-use is removed, only shows on my wifes iphone.
Thank you again.

@Jj8279. You must have the $0 pay per use added to your line or you will have no service at all.
