Someone making calls using my AT&T cell number
Today, I suddenly received an auto-response message ("Sorry I can't talk now") from a stranger's phone number that I did not recognize. His phone was auto-responding to an incoming call (apparently from my AT&T cell number). The only problem was that I did not call him - I checked my call log to verify this. Apparently, someone is making phishing calls, using my AT&T cell number as the Calling Number. Is there any way to prevent this, other than changing the phone number (which, btw, is not a permanent solution, since the new number can fall victim to the same scam).
Thanks.

It is a common practice used by scammers and spammers known as number spoofing. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to prevent someone from spoofing your number. The only good news is they generally only use a number a short time and move on to another.

I get several calls a month from people that say they are returning a call from my number. Got one just now. ATT says it is impossible, but the problem remains.

@MHRichards Obviously, whoever told you it was impossible is clueless. Once again, it’s called number or caller id spoofing and there is nothing ATT or any carrier can do to prevent it.
