International Day Pass - Am I charged for incoming unanswered calls?
Just preparing for an upcoming international trip. I know inbound text messages are free, and I can turn off data roaming to avoid day pass charges, but I'm unclear how it works for incoming calls. If I get a call and I don't answer it (a robocall for instance) does that activate the day pass for that day? What if the call goes to voicemail?

The answer is maybe and it all depends on the foreign carrier. In most cases, an unanswered incoming call should not trigger the daily charge even if the call goes to voicemail but again that depends on when the foreign carrier considers it a chargeable call and reports it to ATT.

We'll be happy to clarify this for you @Scott303.
You are charged for incoming calls even if you do not answer them. The first time you use data, make or receive a call, or send a text message in an IDP country, you’ll automatically be charged a $10 daily fee. However, text messages received are rated as domestic and do not trigger a daily fee. The fee covers additional data, calls, and text messages for 24 hours from the initial use in any IDP country.
Please let us know if you need any additional clarification. Enjoy your holiday and thank you for reaching out to our community.

@Scott303 I am quite confident ATTHelp’s answer is inaccurate based on personal experience and that the daily charge might not be triggered by unanswered calls, though you are probably better off to assume and expect that it will.

I am back from my trip (it was to Turkey) and wanted to report back that I was NOT charged for International Day Pass despite receiving several calls which I did not answer, including one that went to voicemail.

I have recently been fighting with AT&T to recover IDP charges. IDP was triggered every time I had an unanswered call while in France (over 4 months). It also charged for incoming text messages. I don't think their system is clear because most of the days for which I was charged do not even show in the corresponding data use details of my bill. Of course there were days when I initiated and sent a text back to the US; these were detailed in the bill. So you can't match all the charges to your usage without scrolling through your phone's call log to find missed calls or texts to which you may not have responded but received. It all adds up quickly. So despite their Best Practices suggestions on the website, the best plan is to turn off your US phone line while in France.
