How do I check roaming data usage with a passport plan?

I have the Silver Passport plan whcih includes some roaming data, but I can't find out where to check how much has been used (and therefore how much I have left), either on the phone or online. On the phone, it does show "Current Period Roaming" data usage, but I assume that "current period" means the current billing period. The Passport packages are for 30 days but don't align with my billing period. In other words, I used some roaming data in the prior billing period. So I don't know what "Current Period Roaming" is showing me?

In short, can anyone tell me where I can see the amount of roaming data that's been used since the start of the 30 day Passport period?

Thanks!

@JonathanH Call *DATA# on your phone or check on-line.

I believe my Mobile Share account shows it as Intl Data on the *DATA# checking.

Keep in mind, data reporting can be delayed so it's not a perfect checker.

You might be better off resetting data use on your phone when you leave the US and tracking it there.

@Gary L I don't think *DATA# works when roaming internationally.

@JonathanH I've always been able to see passport data usage from the MyATT app but as noted, reporting may be delayed. Your phone's Current Roaming Period is not tied to your billing cycle. It is simply a compilation of roaming data use since the last time you reset the counter. Had you reset the counter before traveling, it would be the most accurate accounting of data use.

Thanks, but I'm already overseas and calling *DATA# doesn't work here. I've been abroad for over a week so resetting data use won't help either. And I can't find anywhere online to check this. I can see total data used, but not roaming data used.

Other ideas?

Can you check the full website, not the mobile version?

Some other browser with full site mode?

How about installing the app? (I do not think this is how I checked before, but it might have been)

I never had any problem checking when I needed to when international but I had a laptop, so I might have just checked back at the hotel on the web...

I'm pretty sure the *DATA# works when I'm in Canada so I thought that might work.

Sorry, that's all I can think of.  Maybe someone else will pipe in.

@JonathanH Again, I've always been able to see my passport data usage from the MyATT app, have you tried that? As for resetting your data counter, you could at least see how much data you are using from that point forward.

I'm back now so the urgency is gone. But still no good resolution. The myAT&T app only shows me total data and does not note what is roaming and what is not, or even when the data was used, except by billing period. And only part of the this biling period was under the Silver Passport plan, as the plan does not match the dates of the standard billing period but has it's own 30 day time period.

The AT&T site was only slightly more helpful. When I dig into Usage to see details, I found where it would show me the number of KB used with each data connection; for example, each time I cheked email. But you can't pick a date range and have the amounts total up.

The only soltuion I found was to scroll through to the date my trip started, and then copy the info for every connection for every day I was traveling, paste them into a spreadsheet and add them up. Certainly not very convenient. It should be much easier to find out how much roaming data is being used, wheter or not you get a Passport package. And especially if you don't, considering the cost of each KB.

More than 2 years later I'm finding this thread because the problem still exists. I travel a few times a year and purchase the Passport plan and can NEVER find out where I stand relative to my roaming data usage. AT&T always says to use the app, which I have, but that data does not exist on the app. I don't travel with my computer when I'm on vacation, just my iPad. Sometimes I can get connection to the website (but during the last week of my most recent trip, I kept getting a screen apologizing for them working on their site) but even then it randomly doesn't show international usage. Crazy that they would sell this service without an easy way of tracking usage.

As AT&T reports data usage up to 72 hours later when on their network and double that when roaming (and who knows when traveling internationally) you DO NOT want to use their counter anyway. There is no reason to use an app that is going to use more data every time you use it.

Your phone has the ability to track exactly how much data it uses.

Check out your cellular settings and it'll tell you how much you use..

Once you get on the plane, you can either:

  • Write down how much you've used so far this cycle and subtract that every time you check.
    or
  • Reset the counter and you'll know what you've used while roaming. This is what I do on my iPhone (I don't know that all phones let you reset in the middle of the cycle).

WARNING: If your phone resets automatically each time your cycle ends, you'll want to write that down before it resets (iPhones reset manually, so not an issue there).

*DATA# (or *3282#) does work, or at least it did on 16 June 2019 in Brazil. A text is sent with a summary of normal plan use, then at bottom part starts "International Data [MB]: xxx of yyy Messaging: x of y International Messaging x of y.

Keep in mind, that *DATA# can be up to 72 hours behind (same as checking the app) and up to a week behind when roaming.

I like my phone settings actually telling me what I used...
