FREE HBO now comes with Unlimited Plus + Choice!

While AT&T only charges $5 for HBO with DirecTV Now, I think it's $15 pretty much anywhere else. But it looks as if you don't even need to have a regular DirecTV subscription to get this.

It seems pretty simple:

"AT&T Unlimited Plus customers will benefit from HBO included in their wireless plan as follows:

  • If you currently subscribe to HBO through an AT&T video service – DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW or U-verse TV – HBO will now be included for no additional charge.
  • If you subscribe to an AT&T video service but not HBO, you’ll automatically receive access to the premium HBO channels as part of your wireless plan.
  • If you don’t subscribe to an AT&T video service, you can access your HBO content through the DIRECTV NOW and HBO Go apps"

See here for more details.

The biggest issue with this is you can probably have 10 people on your unlimited plan, but only 2 people can stream DirecTV Now, but the HBO Go app is probably a little more lenient on that (but it's not data free*).

And don't they look happy with free HBO?!?Screen Shot 2017-04-05 at 8.50.43 AM.png

 * = While all data is free on Unlimited, non-DirecTV Now data (such as HBO Go) does count towards your 22GB deprioritization limit.

Sadly this doesn't work for anyone else on the family plan. We switched over and all 9 of us got a text message with a link to get our "free HBO", but then it wouldn't let anyone except me actually sign up. I contacted AT&T and was passed around for 2-3 hours before being told that we could only have one DIRECTV Now account and we'd all have to share the username and password. AND that it's "free HBO for the whole family, as long as no more than 2 of us are watching at any given time." I didn't see the 1-account-per-plan rule anywhere in the fine print during sign-up...

@stevewayment You can use your username and ID to authenticate the HBO Go app too, that'll allow more users...

I didn't get the "start watching" button.

1) created account on DIRECTV Now and verified phone

2) Stopped at "select your plan below" section because I only want HBO

3) Clicked on menu in upper right corner and selected "Start Watching"

4) sent me to iTunes to download app, signed into App w/DIRECTV Now username/password.

Unfortunately cannot figure out how to log into HBO Go app w/DIRECTV Now credentials but at least I get to watch 3 channels...

Hello,

Sorry to hear you could not get it working.

What worked for me to get around the same problem you are having is to use an email address that you have not used with DirecTV Now before.

Hope that helps.

@catique, assuming that you get HBO add-on by following TellMeTheTruth's steps, this is how you can log into HBO Go app w/DIRECTV Now credentials:

  1. Install the HBO Go application
  2. Launch HBO Go.
  3. Tap “Sign in”
  4. Choose DirecTV Now from the list of providers.
  5. Sign in with your DirecTV Now credentials.

Yeah, I was able to get free HBO with no DirecTV subscription. However, everyone else on my plan received the same text message but their numbers are marked as "ineligible". Now I have to explain to them why I get free HBO but they don't, even though they all received the same "you're qualified" message. Thanks AT&T...

Hello @dal_pal,

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing problems while attempting to redeem our Free HBO offer! I know how much of a great deal this is, and I will be more than happy to help!

If you recently changed your plan, you may want to try logging out and back in, or trying again a a couple hours to ensure the plan change has taken affect in the system. This way when attempting to redeem the offer, it will be able to read your account correctly.

If you are still experiencing problems with the offer, please don’t hesitate to send us a private message to @ATTMobilityCare with your full name, mobile number, and best time and method to contact you so we can look into this further.

I hope to hear from you soon!

I've checked several times to verify my number and still get the same
