FREE HBO now comes with Unlimited Plus + Choice!
While AT&T only charges $5 for HBO with DirecTV Now, I think it's $15 pretty much anywhere else. But it looks as if you don't even need to have a regular DirecTV subscription to get this.
It seems pretty simple:
"AT&T Unlimited Plus customers will benefit from HBO included in their wireless plan as follows:
- If you currently subscribe to HBO through an AT&T video service – DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW or U-verse TV – HBO will now be included for no additional charge.
- If you subscribe to an AT&T video service but not HBO, you’ll automatically receive access to the premium HBO channels as part of your wireless plan.
- If you don’t subscribe to an AT&T video service, you can access your HBO content through the DIRECTV NOW and HBO Go apps"
See here for more details.
The biggest issue with this is you can probably have 10 people on your unlimited plan, but only 2 people can stream DirecTV Now, but the HBO Go app is probably a little more lenient on that (but it's not data free*).
And don't they look happy with free HBO?!?
* = While all data is free on Unlimited, non-DirecTV Now data (such as HBO Go) does count towards your 22GB deprioritization limit.

I just got onto 'Unlimited Plus' plan. So, any idea how I can get HBO streaming on DIRECTV NOW? Note that I don't have any TV services from AT&T, and NOT planning to get one.
Thanks.

@SDEagle The fine print is pretty detailed (but still needs more)...
I believe for the $25 DirecTV Now credit the e-mails need to be the same, I'd create a free sample DirecTV Now account and see what happens...
But I'm not sure how you'd just subscribe to HBO since I thought you had a have some service already with DirecTV Now.

@SDEagle You beat me to it, I just found it and came back to update my post...
I found it at the bottom of this page https://www.att.com/plans/unlimited-data-plans.html#collapseTwo
With a BUNCH of other FREE HBO related questions.
The actual button you want is on https://www.att.com/plans/unlimited-data-plans-plus.html
Just in case the above link disappears, it's at https://www.directvnow.com/accounts/select-plan;flow=update (which may or may not work on it's own).

Hello,
I am replying to SDEagle's post about Free HBO with the unlimited plan. I believe it was you that stated, "I just got onto 'Unlimited Plus' plan. So, any idea how I can get HBO streaming on DIRECTV NOW? Note that I don't have any TV services from AT&T, and NOT planning to get one."
But later said, "
You stated "to your current Direct TV Now package." That package is a subscription plan with DirecTV that after the free 7 day trial, will send you a bill. I think the cheapest package is $35, so with the $25 discount, you will still pay $10/month for the package which includes more than just HBO.
So I am not sure how you are not planning to get a package when after the 7 day trial, you will have a package. I have called several AT&T people, and that is what they are telling me.
I am not looking for a package, I don't want tv service from anyone and from what I am reading everywhere, is that you are not required to have one, but I cannot find one AT&T person who will give me one. They told me what they said as far as subscribing like you stated, but they said it is not free and requires a package which seems contrary to AT&T's announcement. AT&T said yes it is confusing and should be written better but you must take a package and get the $25 credit then costing you $60/month and you get like 60 channels with HBO being Free.
I think HBO cost $15 a month, so I would be getting $5 off with paying $10 month and get 60 channels but that is not what I want. I want only HBO free with my Unlimited Data Plus plan as the ads state.
If anyone know how I can do this, please let me know.
Thanks

I did not mean to say "the $25 credit then costing you $60/month and you get like 60 channels with HBO being Free. " I meant to say "the $25 credit then costing you $10/month and you get like 60 channels with HBO being Free. "

What you said is right - You can actually get HBO without any of their video services.
The problem is, AT&T reps are still getting updates about this latest offer, and most of them are confused, or still following their older offer ("must have a package") to be on safer side.
I called 4 people yesterday, and everyone looked into their manuals multiple times but only 2/4 people came back to confirm that video service is not required with free HBO.
The reason why I changed my mind later (to get a package) was because I was okay to pay $10 for an additional 60+ channels, but to summarize, yes, you should be able to get HBO for free without any packages (if you have signed up for Unlimited Plus plan).
Note that people who confirmed that the packages are not required, also mentioned that there is something called as 'Freeview' which will allow the free HBO service. Now, since I decided to get the package, it was straightforward at my end.
Are you already on Unlimited Plus plan? If so, follow all those steps that I mentioned somewhere above. See if you can get HBO to your account without getting any of their packages (I believe it should work). Also note that signing up to DIRECTV NOW website doesn't mean you will have to subscribe to any of those packages. It will be more like a free account.
So, once again, follow same steps and see if HBO will be added to your free DIRECTV NOW account. Good luck!
Edit: Also note that AT&T clearly displays the message "HBO included. Video service not required for this plan" before signing up for Unlimited Plus plan if you are a new customer.

You go to www. Directvnow.com
And select verify number.
Then create a login and password. Do not use the email address you used if you tried this before.
Then you should be taken to a screen hat says, "Start Watching HBO." Since I am on my phone, it launched the DirecTV Now app and for some reason I had to request a password reset but now I am working.
So, I have At&T unlimited plus and free HBO only with no tv package or plan.
Yeah!!!!
