Does a phone from a previous carrier have to be unlocked to use as a trade in

I have an iPhone X, 2 iPhone X Max’s I could use as a trade in But they are linked to Verizon Do they Have to be unlocked to use as trade in devices? Does att still pay off previous carriers when u switch to att or was that just a special that was ran?

Verizon phones are not locked but no, I don’t believe phones need to be unlocked to trade in. Just be aware ATT’s trade in program is not good. No, ATT does not have a switch offer currently.

At&t trade in offer is $700 in bill credits over 30 months. If you upgrade early or leave, credits terminate, which means you may not see all $700. Not a good deal if you cant stay 30 months with the same phone
