Can Family Map function without GPS or location services enabled?

If location or gps is turned off, can you not be tracked on family maps?

This is a great question! Thank you for bringing it to the Community Forums; I would be more than happy to answer this for you!

 

You can still be tracked through FamilyMaps even within GPS turned off; however, the location won’t be as accurate. The only time you won’t be tracked is when the phone is completely powered off, or removed from FamilyMaps.

I would be glad to help with both of your concerns!

 

As far as the accuracy of the location, FamilyMap uses a combination of technology. Both cell tower and GPS services are used to provide the most accurate location which is usually within a few hundred yards to a few miles of the device’s actual location.

 

@calmotonic, I am sorry to hear you are experiencing problems with our app! I checked for any problems on my side and there aren’t any trending issues of FamilyMap being down at the moment. However, I want to be sure this is taken care of!

 

Please try closing the app out completely or signing out and then back in again. Please also try signing in to the online version here to make sure it is not an issue with the device.

I have tried all of the app reset , load , unload , bounce off , power off , power on

The apple complaints forum has been going for 6 days

The sever your end is down for Australia 🇦🇺

After repeated try all we get is the code text time and time again

Hi @Calmotonic,

I am sorry you are still having issues with Family Maps and would be happy to provide further assistance.

Since you have already tried the app reset and powering off and on, the next step I am going to recommend is to completely uninstall the app then reinstall it. I hope this helps!

i have had Family map for 6 years and has worked almost flawlessly. . All of a sudden since July 2017, Family Map only locates my Galaxy S7 and S8 phones to the nearest cell tower. It used to have pinpoint accuracy but obviously ATT has changed something.  Can you help?

I am in a similary situation.  I have had Family map for 7 years and has worked great and been very accurrate. If the data is being reported every 3 hours regardless if phone is off or not why and how can it not be located?

If the one I am tracking turns off their phone completely so that they won't be tracked, can I then go back and see where they were when the phone was turned off when they do turn the phone back on?
