Block text messages from email address (spammers latest technique)

This should take care of this annoying issue. I just spent 35 minutes on the phone with a WONDERFUL AT&T Customer Care Rep named Gina. She & her supervisor researched and located "Article *446389". It gave her instructions how to block all emails being sent as text messages on my Samsung Galaxy S9+. AT&T has to do it on their end. As she just did it for my account, I am hopeful that I will not receive more of those pesky texts. When you call AT&T, ask the representative to look up "Article *446389". Hope this helps!!

All is only a work around. I want them stopped on AT&It's end, not have my phone try and handle them. Sure, their blocking has gotten better, only about 70% of the time. There's yet 30% that require manual intervention.

It really blows that an IT company can't come up with a solution. Tracing back to originating ISP's reveal many are associated with much larger ISP's. There's a money relationship here, and big brother AT&T is just refusing to act on anything that could take pennies out of investor pockets.

Its 2021 and still an issue.  After the 3rd call to tech support, I discovered the route needed to fix this once and for all.  When you call in, make sure you ask for "Advanced Technical Support".  Just say to stop all emails coming in to the phones text message in the "Email Gateway" like you see in a couple other posts but you don't need to spend the time describing the article since Advanced Technical Support knows where it's located.   I'm writing this to save everyone the headaches like I had.   Called tech support 2 other times and each one said it was disabled.   Advanced support confirmed it was not disabled.  Good luck.

This worked, 2/15/2021. Make sure to contact only customer support, ask them to look up article above. They had to transfer me to advanced customer support. So if you might want to some time, go ahead and ask to be transferred to advance customer support.

It was funny, I asked to block spam email text messages, and they said "sorry we cant filter text messages". Then I asked the agent to look up the article, and the agent seemed to be surprised! And, he immediately retracted his statement and performed the steps in the article.

Haven't received a email text message since!!!!!!!!!

I just called ATT cust serv and got connected to "Advanced Technical Support". Asked the nice gentleman if he knew how to stop all emails coming in to the phones text message. He said he did. I doubled checked by asking about

"Article 446389". He did not know about it but was familiar with the process. Long and short of it, he did what he did and I just tested sending myself a text message through another email account. It never arrived. Hopefully he did not block ALL texts. Gotta test getting reg txts from wife's phone.

UPDATE: wife's txt came through.

Fingers crossed

I got the most incompetent manager at one of their call centers. He didn’t even know you could receive email messages through sms or mms. He was absolutely worthless. I will be switching to another carrier that has more competent management.

I am on the phone with AT&T Tech support right now, trying this very solution. They are not being helpful and I'm almost in tears. I've asked tp speak with a supervisor and am just listening to dead air. I've put up with this for months, but the excessive porn sites I'm being asked to join through these email text messages is overwhelming.

I hope when I actually get through to a supervisor they can help me.

Thanks so much!

It took a while to get past the original support person and to an advanced support technician, but it was then taken care of easily.  She chuckled and asked how I knew about "torch" and "mind".  Said she was impressed by my ability to find this out.  She also added blocking by known spam emails and phone numbers.

Yay!

I just talked to Zoe at AT&T. She was amazing!

I told her open article 446389, then click on TORCH, then MIND, then EMAIL GATEWAY.

She was able to fix it for me and my wife's phone in less than 5 minutes.

Then Zoe said "that's wonderful note taking. Thank you."

AT&T, please give Zoe a raise!

Thank you so much! My first rep, Nora, could not access the article. She was very kind and patient. She said it was grayed out for her. But she transfered me to Advanced Tech Support. That rep, John, knew exactly what I was talking about and didn't need the article. He got it turned off in about 2 minutes flat. He did say I would need to turn off my phone and restart it.

Just give up on AT&T already. This should be a default setting from within an AT&T online account.

Having to call and find someone whom actually understands this issue, waiting hours for service is just not acceptable.

Now if I can figure out how to stop these emails!
