AT&T international roaming question
Hi
I plan to get an iphone14 with AT&T domestic US service on it. However, I travel frequently to India (6 months in a year) and I need the text messaging service to work so that I can receive my bank's 2FA code periodically. Normally this is about 2-3 times a month. I don't plan to use the talk service during travel (have other options) or sending text messages.
I'm considering getting AT&T's international PPU service. My questions are:
1. Would I be charged anything on a monthly basis to activate this service?
2. Would I be charged for receiving text messages (not sending)?
3. Can I activate this service right away when I get my phone (don't have any history with AT&T in the recent past)?
Thanks

It does not cost anything to activate pay per use international service. However, international roaming is usually not allowed for new customers for at least 90 days, possibly 6 months. In any event, once you do have roaming service activated, received texts are free.

Hi, I have one other question. Is the pay-per-use international plan available with a prepaid domestic plan…I plan to get a $300 annual prepaid plan. Thanks in advance.

No. Prepaid roaming is very limited. Prepaid can only roam in Canada, Mexico and select European and Caribbean countries and there are no pay per use rates. Canada and Mexico roaming is free but those other countries require the $35 international travel add-on. Prepaid does not roam in India.

You will not be able to use prepaid service while traveling in India. Link below has countries you can use prepaid service in with the $35.00 per week add on.

So my option would be to get a $50/month plan and then PPU international roam? Is that the lowest cost way?

Yes, that would be the least costly postpaid plan.
