Any thoughts on Smart limits "no limit on incoming calls" just outgoing calls/texts

Any thoughts/options  on Smart limit type features that are  not just limited to just outgoing calls/texts (not incoming) ?  Seems the feature is limited. . Any att aps /features that actually have smart limit features and include incoming calls as well? Blocking and unblocking phone numbers would  become a daily part time job and  is not a realistic feature for setting daily time blocks of allowance with friends.

Thank you

Hello @Tim4tna!

I apologize the Smart Limits feature does not work the way you want it to. Luckily, there is an alternative method to block incoming calls!

This is our new Call Protect feature, which you can utilize to automatically block fraudulent callers, as well as manually block any numbers you wish. In order to use this feature, you will need an HD Voice capable iOS or Android smartphone, as well as be within AT&T HD Voice coverage.

I hope this information helps!

Thanks for your reply ACE!

Any specifics you would share on...  "its so easy to get around smartlimits it does not mater anymore".

The device is our daughters ZTE Trek 2 HD Tablet.

Her Iphone is with another carrier and we added a  similar  feature, that works well except it bypasses the limits set  when on  iphone to iphone calls/texts However we can stop Iphone to Iphone, or any connections by calling the carrier and "temporarily suspend" the phone and then call back in the morning and unsuspend.  A lot of wasted time on hold.

Thanks for your reply Jordan!

We would like to block internet as well, and wouldn't look forward to blocking alot of phone numbers and then having to unblock them after responsibilities, homework and chores are compleated, as well as encouraging at least 6 hours of sleep before school. It's sad so much money is made from the teen and younger market, but without effective parental controls, to keep it healthy.

Hello again @Tim4tna!

Thanks so much for coming back! I completely get where you are coming from. Making sure your daughter gets plenty of sleep, as well as being able to set limits on the tablet would be super important to me as well.

With Smart Limits, you can set time of day restrictions and on tablet lines you can block data completely as well.  However with Wi-Fi enabled, the device will still be able to connect wireless and be useable. iPhones are a bit trickier as they can still use iMessages  when connected to Wi-Fi.  With the time of day restriction, you can stop all calls and regular SMS from coming through on the phone.

There are also many third party apps available on the Google Play Store, which allows you to set limits on screen time and block incoming calls. Most require the app to be installed on both devices to be effective.

I hope this information helps! Please don’t hesitate to reach back out if you have any further questions!

@Tim4tna  You can suspend and remove suspension on your lines yourself using the My ATT app.

You can also turn off cellular data.

another option which only works if you know the sign in information (Apple ID or Google account) is to lock the phone as if lost.

Apple can be done with iCloud.com or find my iPhone app.

android can be done with android device manager.

Thanks ATT
My router has a page to set days and times acess to wifi, for any devices, and we've been using that utility for years.

With our current cell provider, Iphone to Iphone was able to connect even when the phone's limits were set, and or "suspended". (something similar to ATT "Smart limits")

The only way Iphone to Iphone could be blocked was to call and have the service "Disabled temporarly".

It's tiresome calling in and disabeling and enabeling every day, when suspending wasn't enough

I don't know what the difference is between suspended and disabled but wondering if same exists with ATT?

Third party aps would be an option if say, she was 7 to 10 years old, and couldnt figure out from friends or browsing how to circumvent an app.

No.. by the time they reach 12 to 14 they are very teritorial and adversial about their devices. and most likely have a passcode only they know. Akin to a diary.

So we are looking for a provider where the device can be completely disabled (excluding wifi of course) from a login screen. Not only in but out going as well.

And we don't want to track new numbers to block. Smart limits may have worked until about 7 out of ten of her friends moved to Iphone.
