Hello, @dangerruss. Thank you for contacting us with your question about the ActiveArmor app. We can help!
With the ActiveArmor app, once it has been set up on your device, it will remain active, the actual app doesn't need to be open for it to still be enabled. It will be automatically enabled, until you choose to disable the app.
