Re: Transfer DVR Recorded Shows to New Eq
Yes YOU CAN!!! BUT, DirecTV Corp., LIES, AND SIMPLY REFUSES (WHY???), TO ALLOW IT'S *PAYING CUSTOMER S*, (NOTE: The Shows/Movies, THAT WE HAVE 'RECORDED/STORED, WE "*OWN*. AS WE *PAYED FOR THEM*, BY *PAYING DirecTV Corp. A 'SUBSTANTIAL ', MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEE. AND YES, IF YOU *PAY* TO VIEW A SHOW/MOVIE, BY COPYRIGHT LAW, YOU/WE ARE "ALLOWED TO MAKE
-ONE-" (ONLY ONE, For "PERSONAL USE ONLY") *COPY*/*RECORDING*, OF A PAYED/*"PURCHASED* FOR SHOW/MOVIE ****.
THIS, DirecTV Corp. IS **ILLEGALLY**, *DENYING* IT''S *PAYING* CUSTOMERS, THE "ABILITY"/-*RIGHT*-, TO KEEP/HAVE ACCESS TO, *PAYED FOR* RECORDED/COPIED/STORED (ON A 'HARD DRIVE '); OF OUR *PAYED*/*"PURCHASED* *ONE COPY* of Said SHOWS/MOVIES*****

DirecTV Corp. tech support.first told me "it wasn't TECHNICALLY " (I. E. NO SUCH TECHNOLOGY EXISTS !!! ) POSSIBLE !!!!
EXCEPT, *ALL'* Latest DirecTV HD/DVR RECIEVERS, Have a Special, Unique, 'ESATA' CABLE CONNECTION SLOT, at the Back of the HD/DVR RECIEVER. AN "ESATA" CONNECTION, IS A SPECIAL CABLE CONNECTION, "*SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED*" To CONNECT/"**TRANSFER**, ONE "HARD DRIVE DEVICE'S" *DATA* , *TO BE STORED*, ON ANOTHER DIFFRENT, HARD DRIVE DEVICE !!!.
The DigitalVideoRecorder (DVR) That Stores All Your "RECORDED" Shows/Movies; Are "STORED", On The Internal "HARD DRIVE" Of "HD/DVR RECIEVER".
DIRCTV, HAS MADE SURE, THERE IS A SPECIAL, UNIQUE, "ESATA", *HARD DRIVE" DATA CONNECTOR/*TRANSFER* CABLE, DESIGNED *SPECIFICALLY/ONLY*, TO TRANSFER ONE HARD DRIVE'S DATA, TO BE STORED ON ANOTHER DIFFERENT "HARD DRIVE"****
So, DirecTV RECEIVERS, *ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED*, I. E. HAVE THE SPECIAL, UNIQUE, (It's NOT Found on Many Devices That use a HARD DRIVE !!!); - TO 'EASILY ', *TRANSFER THE DATA/CONTENTS*, FROM ONE DirecTV HD/DVR HARD DRIVE, TO ANOTHER DirecTV HD/DVR HARD DRIVE****

I nearly ignored your post completely (upper case is Shouting!!!).

We've been though this many times. DirecTV is doing nothing illegal.

The esata connection does NOT do what you are suggesting.  It allows the connection of an external drive in place of the internal drive. It does not allow transfer of data from the internal drive to an external drive.

And you do not OWN the recordings.

The content providers own their programs not DTV or you, DTV only provides the means to watch them.

All programs are encrypted to the DVR they were recorded to and will not play on any other DVR and the external hard drive that is connected to the Esata port will only replace the internal drive and will not transfer anything to it from the internal drive.

Directv does not own the content. They merely have the rights to rebroadcast it. Per the agreement Directv has with the networks, recording on the DVRs cannot be directly copied. This is the networks protecting their content for the DVD/BluRays that get sold to prevent content (particullary HD/BluRay quality) being pirated. You can connect a recording device to the TV by component/composite/av cabling (just not HDMI) to record the show real time as it is playing. So recording media on Directv equipment you do not own as the media is leased, as is usually the equipment. VCR/DVD player or other recordible device you have is owned, but must be recorded from the TV as normal as media allready coded as leased cannot be copied.

The eSATA connection on the receivers is so you can use an external Hard Drive to increase the recording space, essentially replacing the internet HDD. It is still leased media as it is the Directv DVR doing the recording. This is why the external HDD is formated when you connect it and the internal is inaccessible while it is connected to protect the rights of the networks.

Bottom line you can use an external device to record from what is showing on the TV set. You cannot transfer media recorded on the Directv DVR/HDDVR even using an external HDD connect to it. So if it is something you want to keep/own, record it from the TV or go buy the DVD/BluRay.
