From previous reads it appears the advice is to directly add a spliter to the RG and directly add the fax line along with the phone line into that spliter.  That sounds great but my RG is in a closet and is not feasible to string a phone cord out of the office and down the hall.  Is there another way to approach this issue?

Recap: Uverse voice works fine.  When plugging fax phone cord uverse phone doesn't work. When you unplug the fax phone cord the voice works again. 

Appreciate any help in this matter.  Spoke with tech support and a technican with no real results or solutions other than my fax machine may be the culprit.  I don't believe that is the case.  This is a deal breaker for me to have att uverse voice if i can't get this to work.  Only reason i got it was in order to fax.  Other digital carriers that i have used i did not run into this issue.
